Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

A larger population means a larger tax base, more talent, more economies of scale. If scale made good systems impossible, big companies and big countries would all be dysfunctional. They're not. Healthcare, housing, and subways are not managed at the continental level. They are managed by cities and states. Singapore is 5.9M people. NYC is 8.5M. LA County is 10M. California is 39M with a $4T GDP. If small size is the secret, why doesn't a single US city or state pull off a world class metro, public housing, or health outcome? If scale was the problem, we would have at least 1 or 2 futuristic pilot cities. We have zero!!!! Singapore is the 2nd busiest port in the world, 5th largest financial center, and handles ∼20% of the world's transshipment. It's small but it runs a system that the entire world relies on. That's the opposite of insignificant. Think about what you're actually arguing. You're saying the US system breaks down at scale, so we'd be better off as smaller countries if we want Singapore level results. Scale isn't an excuse. And the fact that we spend more per capita for worse health and infrastructure isn't "running at scale”, it's just running poorly. Dismissing a country that does a lot right because it's small means we learn nothing. I would like USA localities to stop homesteaded property tax entirely, and engage in “Municipal Enterprise” to make a profit and provide a better life for its residents rather than parasitically taking it from the earnings of its own people.

Right but when we get with those taxes isn’t quite adding up in the USA. Vs a low corruption country and what citizens in say Singapore get back from what they pay out. However, the benefits we supposedly receive in exchange for property taxes could be covered by competent “Municipal Enterprise” where localities actually make a profit and use that to provide better living for its residents, rather than being borderline parasitical.

Yep, I manage a work team in Singapore and they always want to come to the US. They hate that they have to pay a huge tax just to buy a car. That and despite the glossy marketing brochure ware, you have to be comfortable living a nanny state.

You sure there are no facts behind it? An acceptable reply from you would be to ask where I am getting my info. And I would have led you to municipal bond fraud whistleblowers and investigations. You put alot of words in my mouth there about not liking taxes. Depends what we get in return for them. If we look at the amount we pay, and then look at a place like singapore and what they get for theirs, something here in the USA isnt adding up. I didn’t say taxation was theft. In and of itself I was implying that taxing a persons homesteaded property on a potential valuation not realized is borderline theft. When it comes to paying for services and infrastructure, you might want to get familiar with something called “municipal enterprise”. Where a city/county/state actually produces something for revenue to better enhance the lives of its residents rather than relying on taking from the hard work of them.
