Tasting beats reading. Buy two bags from different origins, brew them side by side, and compare against the roaster's notes. Local roaster cuppings help too.

What moved the needle for me was tasting two coffees side by side instead of one at a time. Buy a washed Ethiopian and a natural Brazilian from the same roaster, brew them the same way back to back, and the differences stop being abstract words on a bag. I keep a cheap notebook with the origin, process, roast date and three words for what I tasted, and after a few months the patterns show up on their own. Books fill in the why after you already have the reference points in your mouth.

Depends on how long it takes you to get through a bag. I would guess by the time you’re at like the 3.5 week mark, maybe you’ll see a bit of a difference. Just a guess though.

You could split your next bag between the two containers and compare cups near the end of the bag, using the same recipe. Have your friend label them so you don't know which is which. That would test whether there's a difference you actually notice at your usual pace of drinking it.

I keep my beans in the bag they came in, just rolled tight with a clip. My friend swears by those vacuum canisters but I'm not convinced it makes a difference worth the counter space. Anyone actually tested this side by side
