   Paper at the bottom does make cleanup easier, but it absorbs the oils and fines, so the cup goes thinner, closer to a drip brew. I'd skip it and grind coarser, then tip the grounds into a fine mesh sieve set over a bowl and swish the carafe with water. The sieve catches it all for the bin.

   A pour-over filter tends to bunch up under the plunger, and paper strips oils, so less body. Easier hack: dump the dregs into a fine mesh sieve over compost.

   Been there: press plus septic tank. A paper disc on the mesh makes the puck drop out clean, but it soaks up the oils and the cup goes thin, so I gave up on it. What worked better: grind a little coarser, like coarse sea salt, so fewer fines slip past, plunge fully, then pour the rinse through a cheap mesh strainer. Grounds land in the strainer for compost, the press just needs a rinse, and keep the body.

   I've tried this. It makes cleanup super easy, just toss the paper and grounds. The only catch is that paper absorbs some oils, making the coffee taste slightly thinner.

   I have the Caffi bags. 1 Yes, they work. 2 They make for a cleaner cup, a little less texture/body because the bag catches the oils and fines. 3 Worth it, I use my French press more often because cleanup is more convenient. Using any coffee filter like a coffee steep bag will technically work, but may not fit the correct quantity when you fold the edges down. Pretty low stakes experiment.
