   I have a glass and a stainless steel one, both small (350 mL) since I only make one cup at a time, and both double walled. I removed the plunger entirely. I use just the carafe and the lid, and pour through a dripper with paper filter. This greatly simplifies the entire process and gives me a smooth, clean cup of coffee. I am happy with both. The glass one requires more careful care, but is nicer looking and gives me a slightly better result. The stainless steel one also gives great results and is good for those mornings when I don't want to make as much effort being careful with handling. Lastly not using the plunger reduces wear on the glass one. Also eliminates any concern with how well the plunger performs. The glass one cost me $12 and the stainless steel one $27, both bought in 2026.

   I switched to stainless steel after breaking a half-dozen glass ones. However, I bought a single serve Aeropress about 2 years ago which has become my favorite method. An Aeropress essentially functions like a French press but you can also use it for pour over or a blend of pour over and French press.

   I've had the 30 oz Bodum stainless steel French press for about 10+years. I think it's called the Columbia. It's my camping coffeemaker, so I have straight up abused that thing. I'm talking days of rolling around at the bottom of a canoe. Probably one of the best purchases I've ever made. The Plunger is unique because it has a gasket instead of just wire. But it's held up great and works great. The double wall does insulated better than a glass French press. But only long enough to pour a second cup.

   Stainless steel ones will last longer and keep coffee hot longer. I love French press coffee but make sure to filter it with a paper filter or cloth coffee filter because that oiliness in French press and other unfiltered coffee can raise your LDL cholesterol. The metal filters are meant to filter grounds, not oils.

   My respect. I never had one last more than a year or two. I'm now 10+ years into having stainless steel and haven't looked back.
