Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

No ethical consumption under capitalism? None? Are you implying consumption in communist countries is better? Lol, that would be a lie, if you are. Fun fact: in 2016, the world passed a tipping point for the first time in human history: more people left poverty than entered it. Until then, poverty was the norm for the majority on the planet, and it was only growing. So what is responsible for the change? Capitalism. Capitalism, freer market trade, innovation, and all the others things capitalism brings....which are all things socialism and communism squash.

Yeah, I was probably being cranky and harsh and feeling glum about the whole mess the world is in.

I just want to say that I'm sad to see this downvoted. I think it's good to pay attention to the implications & impact of our purchase decisions. Agriculture is a particularly important (and complex) area for it, especially for a product that has significant transportation/carbon costs for much of the world. Hope you found the replies informative.

My personal theory is that coffee shops don’t get a lot of attention/reporting like fashion or restaurants, so it is hard for a small operation to make something blow up. However, everyone drinks Starbucks and Starbucks has the scale to do recipe testing and marketing, so then the Starbucks customers will go to other coffee shops and ask for a thing they had at Starbucks. So basically, I assume coffee is a very top-down type of industry, where everyone has to follow the trends. But like…. There are so many reasons for this. You can blame seasonality, or the US government subsidizing whatever industry for whatever reason, or just normal trends…. This is just how the entire world works. There are always structural and cultural reasons for everything if you dig a bit.
