   I would want the built in bench. Sometimes you need to go back and fix something.

   If this is for elderly or disabled, built in shower benches usually aren't a good solution. They are often hard to transfer to or not in the right spot. A medical shower chair with adjustable feet is usually easier/safer. If its primarily because built in benches are on trend and handy for shaving and places to put shower stuff then by all means get what you love. I wouldn't do teak though it will just be something cluttering the shower that will require extra cleaning.

   For what it's worth, Ihave a teak bench that's a decade old and still great. If does need a good cleaning every few months, but a built-in bench will also need to be cleaned well. I don't think I would build one in, personally. I set the teak bench in the sink and scrub it down, and set it in the sun to dry. But I agree with others - the contractor either needs to do the work or compensate you. The bench I have was about $100.

   Just to give you a frame of reference (no pun intended) a commercial 48" Teak bench is $300-400. This will also require maintenance and will obviously not last as long as the built in bench. It may however look as nice or nicer based on the shower design, I'll leave that one up to you. If you want it done as originally planned I'd tell them to just fix it, otherwise yes you will accept the bench plus the replacement cost of it several times. That seems fair.
