Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Two quotes for a small bathroom gut reno: $36k vs $17k - Which would you choose? - I'm planning on doing a full gut renovation of a very small (40 sq ft) bathroom in an older cottage in Central Virginia. I've gotten two quotes and they are vastly different. The situation is that the current fiberglass shower pan is slowly leaking into the bathroom floor. The bathroom hasn't been renovated in a while so instead of doing a repair, I'm thinking it's probably time to do a full renovation and fix any other issues that come up. I bought the house a few years ago from an owner who - to put it lightly - deferred a lot of maintenance and pretty much cut corners everywhere they could. I recently took a moisture meter to the floor near the shower and it was reading pretty high (even when nobody had showered in 7+ days). So I'm not sure what damage to the subfloor, joists, framing, etc will be known until the bathroom is opened up. I'd like to have the entire bathroom demoed down to the studs and then any subfloor/underlying damages replaced. Maybe nothing needs to be replaced, maybe everything under/near the shower needs to be replaced. I'm not really sure what to expect when the floor is opened. The layout is going to be the exact same. Standard tiled shower with a curb, porcelain bathroom floor, heated floors, new vanity. I bought a nice Toto toilet a few years ago so we'll keep that. **Quote 1 — $36,394 \**[Full Quote Here**\]** * Full demo * Subfloor/joist repair included * Tiled shower + bathroom floor * Kerdi waterproofing + 24-hour flood test * Heated floor * Vanity/faucet + lighting included * Most materials included * 1-year workmanship warranty **Quote 2 — $16,970 \**[Full Quote Here**\]** * Full demo * Tiled shower + bathroom floor * Kerdi/GoBoard waterproofing * Heated floor + dedicated 20A circuit * Install vanity, lighting, toilet, etc. * I supply tile, grout, vanity, fixtures, mirror and light * Structural/subfloor repairs not included So biggest differences are in the second quote, I'm buying many of the materials and there's no structural/subfloor repairs. I'm not sure what the subfloor repairs will look like. That's kind of a big mystery right now. Both contractors come highly recommended. Quote 1 is from a guy who does the work and has a crew. I'm pretty sure Quote 2 is from a guy who does all the work himself (pros and cons there). When you're looking at these two quotes - anything jump out at you? Even if I buy materials for Quote 2 and spend maybe $5k or so on that, there's still like a \~$15k difference. I usually don't like going with the cheapest contractor but jeez the price difference is huge here. Which quote are you going with? Any thoughts/insight would be helpful. Happy to answer any follow up questions. Thank you! EDIT: This is a rental property 2 hours away from home so unfortunately DIYing this project is not something I am considering.

Heated floors are wonderful in cold climates!

We added a medicine cabinet in the wall on the side and another cabinet that matched the vanity above the toilet. I love having space to put things away. I also have the handheld shower plus a rain fall type which I personally love. And we also put in a bidet type toilet and it was the best thing we ever did. I also put a walk-in shower with glass that only goes about half-way across and almost to the ceiling. Our bathroom is small, but with all the extra storage it stays very neat. And the little extras just feel a little luxurious without breaking the bank! I didn’t go with a heated floor, but that’s because I am in Arizona and I would prefer colder floors. lol
