   partial replacement of tiles around a bathtub - We will need to have our bathtub replaced because it started cracking (poor installation). The tub in an a tiled alcove. Is it possible to remove and replace only the tiles ajacent to the tub as opposed to replacing the whole wall? Thank you!

   We have a rainfall and a handheld in both our shower and in our kid's shower/tub. Both sets are equipped with diverters so we can run either head or run both. 10/10 for us. The handheld is extremely helpful for tiny humans, washing dogs, or just cleaning the back corners of the tile.

   Painting the kitchen as a newbie and looking for any tips - So my husband and I are first time home owners and beginning to take on small home improvement projects. To begin, we are going to repaint the kitchen cabinets and kitchen walls (previous owner did a sloppy paint job and it’s bugged us ever since we moved in). I have bought a bunch of supplies, and a can of paint to begin but I will admit I am nervous to mess up and no amount of YouTube videos have quelled that anxiety. How we are going about this: My husband will take off all the cabinet doors and bring them down to the basement where I will use a sanding block to get off the old paint. The cabinets themselves will be staying upstairs where I will use a sanding block on them while they’re in place. I am a bit nervous about this for a couple reasons. \-I am nervous about the dust getting everywhere even if we cover in painters tarp. I am worried that clean up will not be so simple. \-I am also nervous about the airborne aspect of this, since we have an 8 month old baby. The days that I sand I plan on waking up very early (like 1 am) to hopefully give a few hours before she’s up for the day. Thankfully our kitchen has a few windows, but I am still nervous the air won’t be as clean as we would like. After everything is sanded, I will plan on painting the cabinet doors downstairs in the basement and the cabinets upstairs. I bought the Beyond Paint Refinishing kit in color sage for the cabinets. Reviews said that the brushes included suck, so I purchased different brushes. I plan on initially putting each layer of paint on with a brush, then using a roller to give it a smoother finish (saw this in a YouTube video). I’m hoping that will work to give it the clean look we are going for. I am also looking to paint our plastic cabinet fixtures and handles from black to more of a brass color. I saw some paint at Home Depot that allegedly works to create a faux metal look. I’m curious if anyone here has used a product like that and how it’s turned out for you. After the cabinets are all squared away, I plan on tackling the walls in the kitchen. They are painted now, but it feels very bumpy and just like a lot of crap was painted over. I believe they are wooden beneath everything. Is sanding the wall necessary? We live in an older home so I’m unsure if it’s just the material or if it’s really just bad painting. I don’t want to splurge on a sanding machine, so I will have to use a sanding block and that seems a bit daunting for all the walls, but I’m willing to do it if necessary. Thankfully we are keeping the color similar, just going from the bright white it currently is to a slightly off white to make the room feel warmer. I was also considering purchasing a design stencil to do “backsplash” behind the stove and sink area. I would just paint over the stencil with the same color we are doing the cabinets to tie everything together. Tiles aren’t really in the budget and truthfully I have no idea how well they’d even stay on our wonky walls. As a newbie I’m just looking for any tips or pointers, especially if something we are planning on doing sounds off.

   Do not hang it from the tile or an unsupported section of grid. I have done this at a main-tee and cross-tee intersection with much lighter objects where a hanger wire connects, but for a plant this heavy I would add a separate wire or cable attached to a ceiling joist above. Bring it down through a small hole in the tile and hang the plant from that. The structure above should carry the weight, not the grid. Remember to include the weight after watering. A 15-pound plant can get noticeably heavier when wet.

   Oscillating tool is the right move. Before you start cutting, score along both edges of the grout line with a utility knife - if the grout has bonded to the tile glaze, skipping that step can cause the glaze to chip and pull away with the grout, which would be visible under the mounted microwave. Use a carbide-grit grout blade rather than a standard one, and keep it as parallel to the tile face as possible so you're not digging into the tile edges.
