Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Don't wait for the learners to ask questions. Ask them questions about the content! First, they'll learn more because they think about the content. Second, youll be able to diagnose misunderstandings and missing knowledge. The best signal if your learners understood is if they can answer relevant questions / solve problems. You can use polls, breakout sessions, the chat ... You can also ask them questions *before* covering the content. This tells you what they already know and helps them learn (google "pre-testing" for the science behind it)

Quick follow-up for anyone landing here later: I ended up building my own setup with n8n (one agent per character, each with its own web page, learners join via link, no account). Details and trade-offs in the update to the post. Thanks again for all the suggestions!

Good that your learners keep their camera on. My experience is that they often turn it off and you don’t even know if they are still there. I think you listed quite some good ways of getting a feeling for the audience. Polls at the beginning might give you a base line of their pre knowledge and allow you to adjust your pace. You can also make use of quizzes to test their current understanding. I sometimes use slides will missing information and ask them to complete them. Breakout rooms in smaller groups can be used to exchange experience, peer learning or group assignments. If you have an LMS you can also work with mini assignments on the platform and have somebody present their solution via screen sharing. A quiz or questionnaire (could be also Google forms for example) sat before the event allows you to seek their interest and current knowledge. We sometimes combine live sessions with self paced (e)learning before which allows us to introduce the basic concepts to not loosing too much time and bit participants of the online training.

How do you know learners are lost during a live virtual session, before the post-survey tells you? - Facilitating vILT sessions on Zoom/Meet and the hardest part for me is reading the room. In person you see the confused faces. Online it's 30 black squares and "any questions?" → silence. What I've tried: \- Pulse polls every 10–15 min ("1–5, how clear was that?") \- Asking people to drop a 👍 or ❓ in chat \- Breakouts with a "bring back one question" rule These help, but I only find out after I've moved on. Curious what others do: \- Any signals you watch in real time? \- Do you have a co-facilitator monitoring chat? \- Anyone actually using engagement data from sessions to redesign content?

the bit i'd poke at is that the gap only shows up when a learner asks. the ones who are actually lost usually ask nothing and just click on, so what the system ends up tuning itself to is the curious few. not sure how you'd catch the quiet ones short of a quiz
