Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm sorry about your husband. Alzheimer's is a messed up thing to watch. But you're right, I doubt the Chaplain knows what he's talking about... For all I know she could've moved her arms that way because she wanted to adjust her sitting position, idk. I know the "they're still in there" thing is meant to sound comforting from your POV, but I hope she isn't in there. After 10 years from the diagnosis and 2 years on hospice, watching this progress the way it has is just terrifyingly slow. It feels like torture for her. Everyone I know who has been on hospice died within weeks/months. 2 years is just such a fucked up limbo.

Vent about grandma - Ok so I'm my grandma's legal guardian and I get regular text updates from multiple people, they're usually nothing crazy. Grandma is on hospice. Has been on hospice for over a year. I think it is close to 2 years now. She's been in a nursing home since 2018. Anyway here's the text I just got: "MY NAME Once more a brief visit update from Chaplain Bob at Serenity. I stopped in a little bit before lunch and visited with Grandma in the facility. She was in her regular spot and doing her regular thing. When I did questions, although she didn't track me with her eyes she did seem to reach out her arms demonstrating to me a little understanding of what I was saying. I didn't see any new issues or concerns in regards to her care. Just wanted to keep you updated on my visit today and hope that you have a good day." Grandma is bedridden now because her one leg is locked in a weird position. But anyway my point is wtf. Is she in there? At this stage I've mostly accepted that she's gone and is a shell.... But what if she's lucid? Even if she isn't lucid all the time, what if she sometimes understands her surroundings? She must be terrified. Literally I can feel my heart breaking at the thought of it. She's the best person. Or she was the best person. She raised me. Why can't she let go? Why is her suffering happening this fuckin long? She's the last person on earth who would deserve this. I fucking hate Alzheimer's.

Here to say that it worked for my mom. She was living at home with a caregiver who came everyday and eventually she didn’t want to do anything. She also started hating the caregiver. She was starting to act a bit strange and it became clear to me that she was going to need full time care. It was not easy to get her there but the Alz. Association had some good ideas to help her and me deal with the transition. I live out of state so I mentioned that she needed to be there while I was away so I know she’s safe. I actually just heard a woman at the memory care facility say that her son wanted to take a vacation with his family so she came there. Im sure she doesn’t know it’s more permanent than that. It definitely took some time for my mom to adjust as she did not want to stay but eventually she really did start thriving. I mean this is an expensive memory care, but she started making friends with some of the aides, other residents and even the handy man. She is very picky about the activities she wanted to do but she seems to enjoy the different musical activities. Honestly putting her there has definitely extended her life. She was really deteriorating quicker at home. It’s been about 2 years and she has been deteriorating more these past couple of months, but I think she would have gone downhill much quicker. I’m grateful that I’ve gotten more time with her.

My mom had AD and it started with little things like what you’ve described. Then she started having trouble with the computer. Then she couldn’t remember how to get to the doctor’s office. It just kept getting worse as those early years passed by. But we didn’t know what was going on. Now, we know that lifestyle (diet, exercise, sleep, etc.), control of BP & cholesterol, and the new meds can make a real difference in slowing the accumulation of the amyloid plaques! Please have your LO go see a neurologist. The neuro will have your LO do a memory & cognitive test (draw a clock, remember these 5 words, copy this shape…), they’ll order bloodwork to check thyroid function and vitamin B12 level, and then order brain imaging such as an MRI to check for structural issues. Encourage the neurologist to order a complete neuropsych exam to identify strengths, weaknesses and impairments. It’s really helpful to get these baseline tests. Then in 2 years your LO can repeat the tests and you can make note of any changes. But don’t wait! The earlier you catch the problem and start fighting it, the easier it seems to be to slow or stop the progression.

"Getting angry" usually referred to as agitation doesn't affect everyone. If that's the way your doctor thinks of it and refers to it, I would have some concerns about being over medicated as a control mechanism. Is your treatment and care being managed by a neurologist? If not, I recommend finding one with expertise in AD. I empathize with you. I received an early AD diagnosis about 15 months ago. I live alone and have no family. I am honestly scared. Managing my anxiety is a challenging part of my self-care and maintaining optimal functionality. Did you have a Ptau blood test or a PET scan? Personally, I would insist on an objective data-based diagnosis. Don't settle for a subjective diagnosis based solely on cognitive testing and interpretation. Do you know if you carry the APOE4 gene? My mom experienced almost exactly 2 years of stability and no side effects with donepezil. After 2 years, the disease progression returned with what seemed like a new intensity. From what I've read, this is fairly typical. However, there are some newer medications that can provide better results. Have you considered trying Kisunla? It's an infusion for people with early diagnosis. It clears amyloid plaque from your blood vessels. This stops the progression and stabilizes your condition for a longer period than donepezil. There's so much to consider once there's been a solid data-based diagnosis. You are fortunate to have a spouse to help you. Make sure you have looked into all your options. Don't be too hasty with that trip to Switzerland. My thoughts are with you.
