Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Help - Father diagnosis. Long post. - Sorry for the long post I’m just looking for some answers 🙏! My father is 80 and has been diagnosed with some sort of dementia. I’m trying to better understand what his MRI findings actually mean and, especially, hear from people whose parents had similar findings and how things progressed over the years. His brain MRI report says: • Moderate cortico-subcortical atrophy, predominantly involving the hippocampal lobes/regions • T2/FLAIR punctate and nodular white-matter hyperintensities, slightly confluent — Fazekas grade 2 • Dilated perivascular spaces • No recent ischemic lesion/stroke • No evidence of hemorrhage • No mass effect or hydrocephalus • The radiologist’s conclusion: “MRI appearance compatible with a mixed neurodegenerative disorder” • Most importantly, the MRI was described as essentially stable compared with his previous MRI from June 2024. His doctor has diagnosed dementia and prescribed medication used for memory/Alzheimer’s, although I don’t remember the name right now. I understand that hippocampal atrophy can be seen in Alzheimer’s disease and that Fazekas 2 white-matter changes can indicate cerebral small-vessel disease, but I also understand that an MRI alone cannot determine exactly which type of dementia someone has. What I’m really hoping to hear about is long-term experience. Has anyone had a parent with moderate hippocampal atrophy + Fazekas 2 white-matter disease / a “mixed neurodegenerative” MRI pattern? Did your parent ultimately receive a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, vascular dementia, mixed dementia, or something else? And especially: did anyone’s parent remain relatively stable for many years after findings like these? My father’s MRI being essentially unchanged between 2024 and 2026 gives me some hope, and I’d really like to hear experiences from families whose loved one progressed very slowly or lived many years with similar findings. I know everyone’s course is different and Reddit can’t predict my father’s prognosis. I’m mainly looking for real experiences from families who have been through something similar. Thank you so much!! 🙏🙏♥️

My mother dropped from 130 lbs to 80 before her battle ended. As caregivers, my dad and I constantly experimented to see what she would eat more of. Hamburgers worked fairly well...in the sense that she would eat a little over 1/3 of one before insisting that she was "stuffed."

The problem with long-term care insurance is that many times it states an amount per day that it will pay. If your grandparents bought the policy in the 70s or 80s, the per diem allowed would be way less than the cost is today. Some policies updated BUT the cost of the policy increases, too.

It really depends on your personality. For me the anxiety comes from not knowing. Now I know, I know what my risk factors are, and I can just deal with it accordingly. Everyone has the chance of getting it. My parent with Alzheimers is ApoE 3/3. My parent without is ApoE 4/3. Both in their 80s. Go figure.

My mom wants chemo - She does not remember that she has lung cancer. She does not understand why she has pain seven weeks after her surgery (which I was against). Now the oncologist wants her to have chemo and my mom is all for it. The oncologist is totally unconcerned that this is a woman in her 80s with Alzheimer's, she is not seeing the big picture. Meanwhile, my little brother keeps yelling that I want our mother to die and riling her up, so I will no longer be voicing my opinion that this is a terrible fucking idea. I have had enough accusations. Who does mom live with? Who takes care of her 24 hours a day? Well it's not my brother, who's no longer allowed in our house because of ongoing abuse! If mom wants chemo, and she does, I will ensure she gets it. I am so fucking upset. EDIT: I talked to her primary care doctor (a gerontologist who sees this like every day) yesterday to ask her opinion, and she was \*very\* surprised the oncologist had recommended it. She said the quality of life would not be worth the gain in time, and that she would not do it on her own parents. I told my mom that just now and my mom immediately said "then go on girl," and waved, like bye bye, she would just live her natural life. But that could change with whoever the last person to talk to her is. So now the only issue is to get my brother not yelling that I'm evil and trying to kill her. I do feel better though! Everyone thanks for all your input. There has not been one person who says they did it and it was fine.
