   I had a positive pTau 217 test, a CT scan suggested cerebral small vessel disease, and last week I had an amyloid PET scan with a BAPL of 3. I am now waiting to see Neurology but I suspect I will be diagnosed as AD, I’m 57. I have been reading as much as I can about young onset AD so I can understand what the drs say and ask questions. Make a list of your questions and take it to your appointment so you don’t forget to ask something. That’s the best advice I have as I’m in the same place as you. Good luck, 🍀.

   Investigate Anosognosia. It is a condition commonly associated with dementia and AD patients. Also work closely with their neurologist and PCP to help you understand the common symptoms and indicators that will be forthcoming. Go to ALZ.ORG. There are many resources available to you to educate and inform yourself about this issue. Learn about the issues your Dad may encounter, your Mom also. Everyone of us with AD takes a different journey, so the “ one size fits all” approach will not work. Best wishes for your Dad going forward. Regards

   A “brain bleed gene” has nothing to do with Alzheimer’s and brain bleeding sounds like a stroke bit AD. I think he’s not speaking about anything relevant here. If you want to do testing you can be tested yourself for APOE 3/4 genes, even online there are many vendors who offer this test for not a high cost.

   Your wife probably has Anosognosia. It’s real and identifiable. Work with your neurologist and PCP regarding meds. Research and gather information from a variety of sources. Your journey will be unique for you. Knowing what lies ahead is impossible to predict, but it doesn’t have to be a mystery. Best wishes.    (M74) diagnosed with AD 2+ years ago. I have the APOE3/4 genes. Not sure what the brain bleed gene is, never heard of it. We ( my team, wife, neurologist and myself) have worked diligently to make my journey as positive as possible. So far, so good. I changed my diet, meds., sleeping 🛌 habits, lifestyle, exercise routine. There is no cure, nor reversal, only mitigation and alleviation. My progression has been very slow. I still drive, shop, volunteer, travel, (that’s changing). I declined any injectable medications and work diligently every day on my mental health. Things have changed, albeit very slowly. There are many of us out here similar to me. Now my situation is my unique journey. As is everyone’s. My grandmother had AD. While she had total memory loss, both long and short term, she remained happy, content, friendly and loving almost to her death. My wish is for the same. Only time will tell. Stay on this subreddit, and others, like r/dementia etc. and I wish you and your family nothing but the best going forward. Regards
