Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

The falling for scams gives me anxiety for some reason. The whole dementia thing keeps me up at night. It’s funny, I’m a nurse & I’m well aware of dementia , but it’s my mother & it hits different. To see her change like this is just a lot. I think I need to see a social worker. I never expected to feel this way. We never got along & she was pretty narcissistic & all I want to do is save her. I’m shook.

Another early sign with my mother was her falling for phone scams. Only by luck, I always walked into the room in time, figured out what was going on and put a stop to it, but it was another source of anxiety to always monitor her phone calls listening for any sign of a scam.

Reinforce kindness- “You are not stupid. I remember the time you (fill in the blank with a positive experience.)” It may or may not trigger a memory for them. But at least you are hearing them and validating with positive thoughts. If your dad seems depressed frequently - talk with his dr or neurologist. We had my MIL on a mild antidepressant that helped with her sadness and anxiety. It’s hard.

I travel quite often with my mom (76) who lives with me and is between stage 5 and 6. We recently traveled for 11 days (4 days at Disney World and then a 7 day cruise). We flew to Florida and I always try to get a direct flight to our destination to minimize her anxiety. I utilize wheelchair assistance in the airports and TSA pre-check to get through security faster. She wears adult diapers and I have her use the restroom every 1-2 hours. Disney is very accommodating to those who have disabilities and need assistance and we rented a wheelchair for $12/day to get around. We gave her an umbrella to block the sun, a fan and a cooling towel, and kept her well hydrated. For the hotel and cruise, we used the door stopper alarms on the front doors, nightlights to show where the bathroom was in the middle of the night, and I put away items like shoes and coats so she doesn’t get dressed to leave while we are asleep. Cruises are also very accommodating, just ask for what you need and they will do their best to help. Fortunately, when we go on these trips there are enough adults that can help with her care but the bulk does fall on me. I try to keep her as close to her daily routine of getting ready in the morning, eating breakfast, and taking her medication to ease any anxiety. I may not get much rest and relaxation on these trips but her grandchildren will cherish these memories of traveling with their grandma. All of our family lives in another state so I just planned a trip for us to surprise them for the holidays.

My father in law was the most physically healthy person I knew at his age, and he still got it, so I don’t know that I think prevention is possible for my spouse, but we’ll see. Thanks for naming the tests. I can’t say that I would want to have them myself; I’ve opted out of the ones for breast cancer despite family history on both sides, because knowing for sure that I had them would just cause me anxiety I don’t need. I feel like the spouse might feel the same way about alz.
