Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My dad just died 2 months ago. He had Alzheimer's and also had Myeloid Dysplastic Syndrome, which evolved into Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The doctor did not recommend treatment. My dad was 84 when he died. His oncologist told me something that in the back of my mind, I already knew, but didn't want to say it loud. And that is, dying from cancer was a much kinder death than dying from Alzheimers. Not to mention that chemo brain on top of Alzheimers dementia is going to make things so much worse, likely causing the dementia to worsen much quicker. I cannot imagine my dad dealing with chemo on top of Alzheimers. I'm shocked the doctor ok'ed it. What will likely happen is that the chemo side effects may be bad enough that she will not want to continue it. I'm so surprised hospice wasn't brought up by the doc. Not an easy situation to deal with. I'm very sorry.

Stage 3a at best has a less than 40% overall survival rate. Age lowers survival rate. Add in the risks of worsening dementia with chemo. You may prolong her life a little, but what will the quality of that life be? Doctor offered. Mom does not have the capacity to understand the risks and rigor treatment. If you have POA, you get to make the choice.

Oh that's ridiculous!!!!! With dementia you never know what the effects will be, and someone even stated in this comment section how horrible it was for her parent. In my opinion chemo would NEVER be an option for a dementia patient. Fatigue is the LEAST that you'd deal with. Im really sorry you're dealing with this.

  4. Comment

It is the job of the doctor to present all options; the family to ask questions, weigh pros and cons and make choices. Chemo has many side effects and does hit memory hard. Chemo brain is a thing and takes a while to recover from. Is radiation an option? What all options were presented? You can also schedule an appt with her neurologist or whomever is treating her alzheimeirs to discuss treatment recommendation for a more team approach. And even a 2nd opinion oncologist or geriatrician.

  5. Comment

There is no planet where she should be having chemo.
