Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I’m so sorry 😢. My grandmother was in her late 80’s with severe macular degeneration. She hit another car; injuring a middle-aged man enough to the point he had to stop working for a time. My grandmother was in the hospital but her injuries were not severe. The victim sued my grandmother. My 82 year old dad, who’s mom is the grandmother in the above story, was in a car accident 2 months ago. He has advanced macular and glaucoma. He was at fault. Fortunately no injuries; other person’s airbag was deployed. His did not. 2 weeks ago he was in a parking lot fender bender after having just gotten his car back from body shop. Slight damage to bumper. Neither my dad or grandmother have/had cognitive deficit. Your grandma did; the mental illness is the cause of the accident. I don’t know if this helps you. just know you aren’t alone ❤️

We went ahead and got mom her non-drivers state ID. But of course if they have a passport that will work too the only place ever asked for is when checking into the hospital

While he had a license, he hadn’t driven in three years. So when it came up for renewal, we made our DMV appointment (required here) and exchanged it for a state ID card. It was free as he is over 65. So far, in the 6 months he has had it, he’s used it at the hospital, doctor offices, and the bank. Could I have used the POA instead? Probably, but I am sure the procedure to get it into the system is more complicated than swiping the ID. If you can get her to the DMV, and get a state ID, it will make things easier in the future. (He had a Real ID license and received Real ID state ID.)

New Frontotemporal Diagnosis - Hello all, My father is 65, and was just diagnosed with moderate FTD. My family and I have noticed his memory and behavior getting worse for a few years, however we attributed it to mental health struggles and a mid life crisis. 5 years ago, he left my mom whom he was married to for 35 years and quit his job of 30 years, and moved to a random city because he “needed a change.” A year later he moved to Florida, and we are located in the Midwest. He notoriously hates heat so the decision was strange to us but we have a brother in Florida so we thought maybe he wanted to he closer to him. Since this, he started calling less, asking for addresses multiple times, missing flights, losing all forms of identification. The cherry on top was a car crash that he caused and then he accidentally fled the scene of the crime because he thought he was done with police. He got arrested. Then last week he lost his car completely (it has since been found). He was previously living with my brother but moved out two months ago to live alone. My sister and I flew down here after the lost car situation because I needed to assess what was going on. He spent last weekend in the hospital getting a work up for dementia, Parkinson’s, other brain issues, and treatment of a UTI. We followed up with neurology yesterday and he scored a 15 on the MOCA and got a FTD diagnosis. From what I’ve noticed, this is a steep decline from who he was 6 months ago but the signs have been there for at least 5 years since he ended his marriage. Looking back, he got lost at my wedding 2 years ago and barely talks to me like he used to. It’s so sad. I look at the father I once knew and it’s not him anymore. He’s scared. He looks helpless a lot of times. He just sits and zones out. His apartment is dirty, he has barely any food, half the electricity is out, and there’s random papers with scribbles and numbers on it everywhere. It makes me cry when he tries to tell me something and it makes no sense at all. I’ve afraid of what’s to come and how long it will take before he passes. We are flying him home to us tomorrow and he will be staying with my mom in our family home until we can find assisted living. I don’t know if I’m looking for advice or just to vent. It’s just fucking heartbreaking.

In my opinion, the aggressiveness is just not acceptable. I work in a hospital and when they send me to do an X-ray on an aggressive patient I simply tell the doc that this patient is too aggressive and they need to be sedated. Tell the geriatric doc that you need to increase the dose because shes still way too aggressive, and make it urgent. If they dont want to increase the dose then plz take her to the ER. Your grandma would have never wanted to be like this, she would want to be in a more sedated state where she cant hurt anyone. As far as the dirty stuff, I couldnt handle it. I would put my dad in a memory care if he started doing that. Thankfully I make him wear the incontinence underwear, and once you are able to get your grandma under control with some better meds, she can start to wear that too. The screams can be draining, i cant stand it either when my dad is cursing and yelling non stop. Their mind is suffering and only the meds can help put them at ease. She definitely needs a nurse or an aide at the very least. Her insurance should be able to cover it, your grandpa is not in any position to be refusing help, otherwise leave him to take care of her. I know you are at your limit, you cant keep doing this. I know too well the feeling when you dont have time to eat or shower, its abuse on yourself. Your welcome and im going through the same but I am getting some help so its not as bad as your situation. Sending prayers your way. 🙏❤️
