   I believe the rate of decline varies. My wife was 77 in 2022 when she suddenly started manifesting paranoia and delusions. Though it took until November to see the doctor at the memory clinic, I noticed that every 2 or 3 weeks she'd have either new or worsening symptoms. Over the course of 3 1/2 years caring for her, her memory worsened, as well behavior. In January of this year, I had to place her in MC. At the end of March she broke her hip and had surgery. From that point, her decline began to gradually accelerate. Now, she's receiving hospice care in MC, having lost a significant amount of weight, which has made her frail and weak.

   We have a Blink camera in my moms room at MC. The motion sensor is not totally reliable, but it’s nice to check in. One tjme mom had fallen out of bed - the next week she was literally hanging off the bed - it looked so uncomfortable! I saw staff members come in and leave and they left her like that. I called and freaked out on the head nurse. I think cameras are very useful to have.

   When I began caring for my wife, I made mistakes, I lost my temper. I quickly became overwhelmed and confused...and I had to keep reminding myself that this was the disease, though she'd always been emotional, easily upset and prone to meltdowns where she'd become angry and withdrawn. I knew enough about the disease to realize what she was manifesting was related to ALZ. All of her sisters and several aunts had various forms of dementia. I received much support from the memory clinic where she was diagnosed and from my psychiatrist. Then came the clinical psychologist to keep me from drowning. The case manager I hired, a geriatric social worker, has helped me, too. 3 1/2 years of caring for her. Had to place her in MC in January. She began moving into advanced stage about 2 1/2 months ago. Hospice has been brought in to manage her medical needs. Though she still knows I'm her husband, she doesn't address me by my name. That's okay. Remembering who she was, as well as the many photos of us, as well as photos of her before we met, bring me to tears every time. Yes, grieving. And there's likely more to come when her life ends.

   My goodness, that's actually cheaper than what I priced out! It was about $35k a month when I was looking at it. Moved to MC (very nice facility) and are sitting at about $7600 a month. I handle the meds refills and running to the pharmacy etc and my LO is physically capable right now, but quickly declining. I'm sure within 6 months I'll be paying a lot more as the levels progress. I dread that. However, I will say the food is amazing and I have meals with LO a couple of times a week. No extra charge.

   I understand your frustration and seriously, many residents who enter MC are there because they're incontinent or will be. The potential need for clean-up should be included in the initial fee. Is your Mom on any medication to make her more compliant with showering?
