   I remember once I said it out loud, and later that day I couldn't reach my dad on the phone and I panicked. (He was fine.) It's a totally normal feeling to have once in a while. None of us expected or wanted to be plunged into this horrible situation.

   Streaming will be less expensive, but depending on what package, it can exceed $100/mo. And all will require the use of the buttons on a remote. Maybe not to type letters, but certainly to navigate. My wife and I have spectrum Internet and spectrum streaming on our Roku TV. We pay about $174/mo for Internet, streaming, and phone. But there are less expensive options.

   Speaking as the child in this situation, it might be really hard on them. I always called my mom but once she couldn't have a conversation anymore I stopped asking to talk to her. I still check in on my dad every couple of weeks but our conversations are limited to "how's it going?" "good" "ok bye" Both of us hate the phone.

   Has anyone's LO thrived in assisted living after being isolated at home for so long? - My (31F) mom (66) has moderate Alzheimer's- she has no short term memory, needs prompting for grooming/medication/meals, and has difficulty following conversations. She can't manage any of her own appointments or money. She doesn't wander (yet) and she is for the most part pretty complacent. She also has a lot of other health issues, like pulmonary hypertension, depression, anxiety, and alcoholism. At this point, she needs daily care- her sisters help out a few days a week, as well as a caretaker on the other days. However, getting get to engage and do activities has been difficult to almost impossible. She would rather stare at her phone or the TV, even though she can't follow what's happening. We believe that moving her to assisted living now, while she still is somewhat there, is the best move. It would give her time to adjust to the new place and routines before she becomes more disoriented. We also think she would benefit from being around more people day to day. She enjoys being social with new people when they're in her environment, but at this point it's hard to get her to leave the house to give her the opportunity to be social. The biggest hurdle is going to be convincing my brother (27M) that it's her best move. He currently lives with her and while he has acted as her caregiver in the past, now has little to no involvement in her care. While my mom is considering moving, he believes that she will decompensate and die if she moves. Besides needing more medical oversight than we can give, we think being around people and activities will give her purpose. Can anyone share their experience with moving their LO into assisted living, and seeing their quality of life improve? Not sure it'll move the needle with my brother, but I'd also like to hear opinions and experiences. Thanks!

   She was losing more words and was agitated…. Fighting to be free and scared. She was the strongest person i have ever known - a real warrior. For example, years ago at work she accidentally put a knife through her finger trying to separate some frozen hamburger patties. Calmly pulled it back out and wrapped her hand in a towel, cleaned up the kitchen, drove about 40 miles to hospital and had hand surgery, was released later that night and drove home. Wasn’t phased and joked about it with me that night on the phone. Had rotator cuff surgery and the next day used a sledge hammer to make an opening in her basement using the other arm since the plumber was coming and she didn’t want to pay him to make the hole for the new drain. So in the last 2 months this brave lady knew things were bad for her but didn’t understand anything - where she was, why she couldn’t leave, why she couldn’t remember or speak words- she was afraid every day and would cry and beg for something to change. She started to be agitated and fought them changing her clothes , she fought a shower or any sort of help with the toilet or her diaper. Became paranoid that the staff and other residents were plotting. We were completely unaware that they restarted her Seroquel against our wishes and her doctor’s orders. With the help of her neurologist, we determined that the Seroquel made her more agitated and it didn’t help sleep. Just like many of the drugs they gave her didn’t have any impact anymore. Turn it up in the hospital through the ER room which was horrible and terrifying for her and she went down quickly after that we shifted her to a memory recovery center and she died about two weeks after going there.
