   I’m 75 so it’s a little easier I’m sure than your situation. Dr recommended anti amyloid therapy but I was on blood thinner. Cardiologist few days later took me off it so I can get the anti amyloid treatment. Waiting to see Dr to decide on which drug and then get insurance approval. I’ve considered and considering Switzerland also. You should read Amy Bloom’s book “In Love” about her husband going to Switzerland. Very educational and well written. I’m a retired attorney and the process of updating my advance directive. I have some great sources for that. Wishing you the best, whatever that means under these circumstances.

   Yes, but part of that is because Dignitas requires Americans to have an American doctor do the assessment that the applicant has “discernment.” In Bloom’s book, that was the major hurdle for them because most American doctors don’t know much about the VAD situation in Switzerland so it was difficult for them to find a doctor to do this. But some of the other organizations in Switzerland (like Phonix, which is among those described on the site I linked above) pair applicants with a Swiss doctor to do that assessment so the process is much easier and way faster. The other thing that makes “just go to Switzerland” complicated is many people don’t act quickly enough. As Bloom writes, one heartbreaking part of this is that those with dementia must make this choice and act on it before they decline to the degree that it’s too late.

   I was also going to recommend that book. My takeaway was that it's not as easy as it seems to just "go to Switzerland."

   My wife (62) is 4 years from EOA diagnosis. She's been on donepezil for all four years .(Makes her tired in my opinion) She continues to get worse with each passing month in regard to being confused. I don't this this drug has helped her at all. We tried the newest infusion treatments, but she got swelling of the brain and we had to stop. My wife gets violent when I change her, she's double incontinent. She kicks, punches and bites but ourside of this, she's pretty calm all day. If I had this disease, I'd go to Switzerland too. Bless you and hope your with us a long time.

   You can't just take a trip to Switzerland (not Sweden) to do what you meant. The procedure takes months and multiple visits to the doctors
