Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

    >I know we’ll have to start looking for a Senior Living, with assisted-living and memory care Those are lifestyle decisions you CAN make, but they are luxury apartment complexes rather than medical facilities and you do not have to go that route. They also do not help you in many of the ways you imagine they will, so find some people to talk to who have extensive experience themselves or with their parents in the kind of places you are thinking of. Do not ask the sales people. (AL can be viable for a while for one spouse with cognitive impairment living with someone who doesn't, but it's still YOU doing all the caretaking except with the benefit of a cafeteria. And she can't yell or wander or set things on fire or otherwise be a difficult neighbor, they will move her to the area they call memory care and it will not be as nice as the pretty AL apartment they sold you, and now you're paying for two places to live. AL is not appropriate for someone with dementia living alone, and they know that, and they will sell it to you anyway because in 3 months they'll be turning that apartment over and raising the rent again.) And be warned that the west coast is eye-wateringly expensive. If you're considering a move, research the prices of actual nursing homes - this is the place she will end up when your apartment complex basic services aren't enough - by state. You may find that it is an eighth of the price to live near a midwestern airport where your sons can fly in rather than paying $20K/month in San Francisco and only see them once or twice a month anyway because SF is so big and traffic is so bad. You may find that a modest one-story wheelchair/walker-friendly home in Akron or Indianapolis or Fort Worth with a housekeeper and a few hours of home health aides per day gets you and her a long way before she needs facility care. (You may also want to talk to your sons about whether they plan to stay there, and if not consider a multigenerational property situation.) You will need to stop flying her back and forth sooner rather than later, as well. It makes things worse to shake up their routines. They don't have the neuroplasticity for stress or adapting to unfamiliar environments. I recommend you take some time to think through what you feel the "remain at home" stage would be for you. Yes, decision-making is up to you now. Team up with your sons and their families to discuss future arrangements, not your wife. I also encourage you to contact your local Office of Aging (it'll be called something like that, inside the Health Department - you can call 211 and probably get their direct number) and take advantage of their resources that can explain how all this stuff generally works in the US and even if you are anticipating moving states at least find out what you have in DC or your state so you can compare to other states. Here in Oregon that department can put us in touch with people who explain Medicaid, placement services that help match you with the support level you need, help you figure out home aide options, even get mobility and accessibility upgrades to your current living space. I don't know if it's worth trying this with your wife, but while my mother has mostly phased out of understanding she has dementia, she's convinced she's had a stroke or multiple strokes and we're just rolling with that idea. I think it's just such a common and blame-free thing that happens to people all the time, it's an easier explanation for her "memory problems" (and in my mom's case, balance and motor issues too). Youtube is sometimes an easier resource to get your initial understanding of Alzheimers progression, versus trying to concentrate on books. But please do reach out to your local Aging services, they really can be a goldmine of information and unexpected help.

Respectfully, I disagree with the geriatric doc saying not to give her the meds. At this point, how good is her memory? And there are other meds that can be used to sedate her that might not be so harmful to her memory. Low dose of antipsychotics are usually prescribed here in the US to help sedate the patient a bit, and maybe combine it with an antidepressant to make her a little more happy. Speak with the doc and see if there is anything they can do. Please stop listening to your grandfather and either take control or leave the situation. Your mom will have to take over and possibly quit her job. You need to take a break at least and take care of your own health. And try not to sacrifice too much sleep, spend less time taking care or your grandma and more time taking care of yourself. I know its easy to say, I sometimes also put my dad ahead of my own health. But your grandma seems to be very late stage and at this point, idk if its worth it to keep abusing yourself like this. I hope you take some advice from this community, best of luck. 🙏❤️

Might need to let that happen so your mom and dad take action. (Im in US so idk what resources there are there to suggest).

  4. Comment

Agreed. I would stop going. Sure they will be mad. But imho the alternative sounds way worse. Im In US so cant offer regional resources unfortunately.

People end up liquidating LO assets so medicaid pays for the care home (if in US)
