   Nah. It’s called singling out a continent of people that have mostly been under the boot of imperialism for centuries and are being grouped as not caring about the environment, rather than empires that have long polluted them. No nuance or anything, just bigotry I’m afraid.

   these companies need to know that we dont accept this. not only are real artists no longer getting paid, but these data centers are hurting ppl and the environment. this is a huge issue.

   it *is* about jobs (and the effects on the environment, although AI or not, the environment's practically a lost cause now). unlike past mechanisation and electrification of the world, there doesn't appear to be much that can be done to retrain and reassign people to the promised new jobs that will be created in the wake of AI. AI eliminates a lot of current non-executive white collar roles that a decade ago were said to be tech-proof, eg programming, creative/arts, and non-physical human interaction-focused roles. the jobs that will not be replaced by AI within the next 20-30 years are decision-making roles at executive level -- obviously the highest level of management will not replace themselves with AI, but also equally obvious is that you're not gonna have a company with, like, 300 Chief Operating Officers. at the same time, there don't seem to be new types of jobs appearing at a scale that can absorb the surplus workforce, and UBI doesn't get brought up anymore in conversations re future under AI domination. what are the options available to most of us then? start our own business without large businesses' and nepo babies' access to major funding and preexisting infrastructure? most small businesses can't keep running on a loss for a few years, they just collapse and drag their owners down to bankruptcy hell. go back to subsistence farming when land is expensive, the environment is wrecked, and it precludes a lot of people who are not physically able? you gotta understand this makes everyone anxious and anti-AI.
