Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I cannot read it...from SheilaSunshy

I don't deny that many replies in this post are correct that peptides haven't really been studied enough and could be money you don't need to spend. That said "peptides" is an incredibly broad term (like "probiotics") that doesn't mean much and is often used for marketing. The peptides that are studied more (still developing research) are usually signaling peptides that basically send a collagen SOS signal. Examples are matrixyl, matrixyl 3000, argiraline for expression lines, potentially copper, etc. Dr. Aleksandra Brown is a dermatologist that has a whole educational series on peptides available online (Instagram, Pinterest, etc) if you want to know more. Currently recommended for more mature skin (ie 35+). Each dermatologist has their own personal guidelines, but recommendations are usually along the following vein: Morning: Optional cleanser (oily), Vitamin C, Moisturizer, SPF Evening: Cleanser, Retnoid, Moisturizer Anything beyond is generally personal preference or based on treating specific skin concerns like rosecea, hyperpigmentation, acne, wrinkles, etc. Retnoids come in different strengths. Simplified, retinol is the weakest/least irritating, then retinal, then adapalene, then prescription like tretinoin. If you don't want a retnoid don't do one. But if you do, starting with a gentle retinol that has calming ingredients or supplementing with a serum designed to calm the skin / boost skin barrier will help avoid irritation. (Plus the typical PEA-SIZED amount and start once a week, working up to at least 3x a week or it's not doing much) Alternatively lot of people do what's called a "retnoid sandwich" in which you moisturize, Retnoid, moisturize again because deeply hydrating helps avoid irritation as well.

Thanks! I think the only part about your question that I missed was that the serum you're wondering about is something that you already like to use. In view of that, same answer, peptides and the collagen (maybe the soy too) are mostly really good plumping and moisturizing ingredients that would be great regardless of age, unless of course it made you break out or something. The anti-wrinkle claims are just to sell product to more consumers.

You're making really good points about how to keep skin looking good! I was not so clear on my post. I don't really want to use anti-aging products. But I just realized that the moisturizer that I've been using has collagen and three peptides so I was wondering if it was harmful or too much. You explained well that it won't cause harm but not necessary. thank you for explaining.

I used a lot of different things from snail mucin to coffee on my face but peptides/collagen didn’t really become known or popular to me until I was like 17-18. Then I got on tretinoin at 19, just reduced using it recently and I’m about to turn 21. I don’t think any of its harmful or a bad thing especially regarding collagen and peptides. It’ll potentially keep your face hydrated and firmer long term or it won’t really do much for you, those are really the only outcomes. Usually topical peptides and collagen are marketing ploys and only work for the time that you’re using them. If they’re good for your skin that’s good but you’d have to take supplements or otherwise ingest something with peptides/collagen for a sure effect. Just be specific about what you’re using, don’t overload your skin with too many products, actives, or anything else, and listen to it. And use sunscreen, but this all entails having a healthy lifestyle as well. Sure some can smoke and have lots of sugar and not be impacted but other people aren’t the same and it’s just better to cut out the other things you regularly consume which cause the same problems you’re aiming to solve with collagen. And, while it’s safe and fine to use or take at our age, it’s not really necessary and would be a bit of a waste. It’s the optimal age group for collagen production, hence why if you have problems you’re trying to fix, the root cause isn’t a lack of collagen.
