    I'm talking mostly about people who do have that interest. My group *is* interested in board games, and we've gotten together for Ticket to Ride, Risk, one guy has played Pandemic, and they're open to playing Dixit and Magic Maze. The issue is they have like 5-10 minutes of attention span before going "Let's just learn as we play" and then ask questions in the middle of the game. They get lost, keep looking at the rules, and have a worse time because they didn't want to hear the rules. So by playing smaller games, it's more like teaching one rule/mechanic in multiple 5 minute chunks, rather than trying to cram a whole game in 10 minutes Guaranteed though, people with no interest in board games will just never want to learn. I know that unfortunately. I tried Wavelength with such a group, and they were too busty gossiping to focus on the game, so it just fell through. I've learned that lesson the hard way, so I'm just focusing on the group I do know want to play

    I'm sure there's a mathematical formula for it. I would say 10 minutes set up and 5 minutes tear down is acceptable for a 2-3 hour game. 5 minutes set up for a game that's 30 minutes is pretty unacceptable. To some degrees it's also about complexity of set up vs depth of game. Jaipur is a good example of a game which is at its core very simple so I feel more annoyed about doing set up compared to sea salt and paper where the set up is instant. Root on the other hand I feel like the set up complexity matches the depth of the game. I'm ok laying out all the components because I think the game would be worse without them. And there's probably something about max time per action which is a much flatter curve for acceptability. Mtg is a prime example where I refuse to play certain decks because I have to do too much admin to complete an action. Add one counter here, trigger card c, and a counter to all things but three counters to one thing, reduce to opponents life by 1 gaining me 2 life, triggering an extra card draw which means 2 extra tokens. And you have to resolve them slowly in order in case your opponent wants to interrupt.

    yea its been on pre order with them for months but no indication when it will ship.. I would rather buy from Game Nerdz which their warehouse for local pickup is 10 minutes from me or from my fav board game store House Rules Dallas in Bishop Arts.

    This is how my group is run. For less heavy games we are comfortable with doing a quick 10 minutes max teach but generally we all know what is going on before we arrive. Even for heavy games I'm fine getting the quick overview and just running with it. It's just a game, losing doesn't diminish the fun with my wife and 2 friends

    Some games are even shorter than 10 minutes and some folks have paper records that go back decades that they added up to BGG later. And some thing like "Classic Card Games" can be dozens of games all being stuck under the same label on BGG.
