The eyes alone make me want to avoid this game like the plague. As for wether it's fun the bgg reviews seem between meh and bad. Definitely sounds like you shouldn't play it at 2 at least (no surprise for a drafting game)

How do you mean? Children are capable of much more than we give them credit for, especially when started young. In bilingual households, children are learning two languages at once. I'm not sure learning a board game is even to that level of learning. Barenpark is tetris with bears. Not very difficult. Sure, their strategy might not be great, but they can put pieces on a board in somewhat reasonable arrangements. Splendor is using gems (currency, money) to invest in perpetual money. Then you use that perpetual money to buy more perpetual money with points attached. Get to 15, win. Not super difficult to understand. Battle Line is a little harder -- but for a five year old who knows 1-10, it isn't that difficult. You just teach them the hierarchy. 8,9,10 is better/higher than 1,2,3, so reigns. Then it's colors and sums. My 3 year old doesn't quite understand, but my 6 year old does. And he's been playing this one for about a year now. Yesterday, we (my wife and 3 year old were on a team, I was on my own, my 6 year old was on his own) spent the morning playing Puerto Rico 1897. This was his third time playing. He understands you take an action, you get bonuses. You put the estates on the board, you put a worker there, you take the same building, fill that with a worker -- you get to produce the good. These aren't extraordinary concepts, but you do have to take the time to explain. But he's played enough games that he understands these things better and better, and the more games I introduce, the easier it is for him to understand more complicated games. I've been playing games with him since he was 2 -- you know, you start with the simple HABA games like Noah's Ark, Hedgehog Haberdash, etc. We also started playing Chess very early on. Then you move on to something like Century: Golem Edition. The theme is very interesting for kids, they get crystals, they get to buy golems. You use cards to buy better gems to buy golems. From there, they understand the act of playing cards, to earning resources, to spending resources, etc. And that's most board games. But, we've spent a substantial amount of time playing games with the kids. My 3 year old asks me everyday to play a board game.

Only shuffling involved is in the setup. You can always do light shuffling or pile shuffling because each deck is also just 10 cards or 15 cards. There's also 5 extra cards for each set that counts as additional achievements and those are always unique (it doesn't matter if the sleeves are noticeable). Sleeving does indeed make the shuffling process better but that could just be the placebo effect. With just 10 or 15 cards for each deck, I think it's reasonable to not have them sleeved although I personally sleeved mine as I do most of my games. I'm from Asia so it's a bit more expensive to buy another copy. As per above, each deck is only 10 or 15 cards, so you can also mix sleeves. Just ensure that all cards for each deck have the same sleeve and there would be no problems. For example, age 10 base game, all 10 cards should be the same sleeve. Age 10 expansion 1 and 2 can have a second pair of sleeves and Age 10 expansion 3 can have a third set of sleeves, etc. All of these decks have unique backs anyways, so yeah, it's okay to mix sleeves as long as each deck have the same ones so you can't single out any card in a deck. Definitely start with the base game first. It might take a few games for you to be familiar with how the game plays and explore the unwritten rules to become a good Innovation player. Once you've grasped the basics and have seen most of the base cards, you can add in an expansion even if you haven't mastered the base game if expansions get too enticing (I know that feeling). Expansions always include the base game so it's best to play until you discover most of the base game first. As for which expansion to include first, Echoes, City and Unseen do a great job at being that. Figures is like the wild west with how much it can affect everything and Artifacts, I don't have experience with it yet but it also adds in a different dimension than what you'll be used to in the base game. The forementioned three expansions mostly add to the familiar dimensions rather than adding different dimensions like Figure and Artifact does. I'd go for those two once you've mastered the base game which you can do while playing with the other three expansions. Hope you keep an open mind and have a good time with my most favourite game at this moment. It's quite flexible although some players do prefer it at only 2. Many still do play with more than 2 and some even play with more than one expansion. You'll know where you stand once you get to playing it. Admittedly, it's also not a game for everyone but you've done some research so hopefully your purchase is worth your money here.

[Ark Nova] Had a fun Sunday afternoon with friends. - Got absolutely crushed today by a BGA veteran with over 100 games under their belt. Oh right, including today, my total play count is exactly 2. Gotta keep at it! 😂

Weekly Crowdfunding Roundup: October 4, 2026 | 37 ending soon ("Baba Is You & Party House", "Tend: Hive & Cellar Expansions"), 11 late pledge ("Gods & Mortals", "Ronin's Revenge") & 25 new ("The Lord of the Rings™: The King’s Gambit", "Conan", "Dark Tomb: Lost Temple of Zor") - ## What is this? This is a weekly roundup of board game crowdfunding projects, featuring new launches from the past week and campaigns ending in the coming week. The information is sourced from Kickstarter, Gamefound, and Backerkit. The list is curated through a combination of automated data collection and manual review, so occasional errors or omissions may occur. If you notice a missing project, feel free to mention it in the comments. Only projects meeting the selection criteria outlined below are included. ## Other channels Other than Reddit, you can also find this list on the following platforms: - Google Docs - Mastodon - Bluesky ## Selection Criteria Projects must meet the following conditions to be included: 1. **Timing:** The project was either launched in the last week or will end in the coming week. 2. **Relevance:** The project is directly related to board games. - Excludes: Accessories not strongly related to board games, furniture, RPGs (e.g., D&D, Pathfinder), video games, STLs, painting tools, events, podcasts, and magazines. - Exception: Projects offering promos or similar content for board games are eligible. 3. **Backers:** The project is expected to reach at least 100 backers by the end of the campaign. 4. **Funding Status:** - The project is expected to reach at least 90% of its funding goal. - The project has already achieved at least 20% of its funding goal. In addition to the main lists, I include a separate section for noteworthy projects that don’t strictly qualify as board games. These projects are included based on a single criterion: 1. **Backers:** The project currently has more than 1,000 backers. ## Crowdfunding is not a store Crowdfunding is not a guarantee. Projects may face delays, incur additional shipping costs, or fail to deliver entirely. Creators are not obligated to fulfill their promises. While many excellent games are funded this way, the risks are real, only back projects with money you can afford to lose. Be wary of creators who use FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) tactics to drive pledges. Don’t let the pressure get to you. If you miss a campaign, there will always be others. There's no shortage of excellent board games to enjoy. ## Tags Each project is tagged with one or more of the following categories: - 🌱 Creator's First Project - 🌳 Creator with more than 5 projects - 🌟 Featured Project (e.g. Kickstarter "Staff Pick") - 💰 Fully funded - 🔥 More than 200 daily backers - 🤝 Offers refunds (e.g. Stable Pledge) --- ## Ending Soon (37) | Name | Description | Backers | Pledged | Ends | Information | Tags | BGG | |---|---|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:|:---:| | Baba Is You: The Board Game & Party House: Deckbuilding Game | Two sensational award-winning video games — Baba is You and Party House \(UFO 50\) — leap off the screen and onto your table! | 7,179 | $629.7k (4197.9%) in 19 days | 2026-10-09 | 💸 Kickstarter 👤 Nick Murray o… 👥 2 ⏱️ 45min | 🌳🌟💰🔥 | BGG | | Tend: Hive & Cellar Expansions | Two new expansions for the highly-acclaimed & strategic cozy farming game. | 5,048 | $935.1k (1870.1%) in 19 days | 2026-10-07 | 🚨 Bad rep 💸 Gamefound 👤 IV Studio 👥 1‑6 ⏱️ 60‑90min 📦 Expansion 🧘 Solo | 💰🔥🤝 | BGG | | Pincer: A Gentleman's War | A 2–4 player, turn-based strategy game set in the 18th century, where players compete to build powerful empires across a hex-based map. | 3,019 | $304k (506.7%) in 33 days | 2026-10-06 | 💸 Kickstarter 👤 Julian Birke 👥 2‑4 ⏱️ 90‑180min | 🌱💰 | BGG | | Onryō: First Seal | A cooperative 1-5 player strategy game where Ninjas use their skills to seal a vengeful spirit. | 3,011 | $41.7k (834.6%) in 20 days | 2026-10-08 | 💸 Kickstarter 👤 Lemery Games 👥 1‑5 ⏱️ 15‑30min 🧘 Solo 🤝 Cooperative | 🌳🌟💰 | BGG | | Catvale: The Board Game with Claws! | A strategic adventure game where rival cats explore, build, quest and clash for pride in a modular, ever-changing world. | 2,644 | €348.5k (1742.3%) in 26 days | 2026-10-08 | 💸 Kickstarter 👤 FUdice 👥 2‑6 ⏱️ 90‑180min 🧠 2.8/5 | 🌱🌟💰 | BGG | | Rat Queens - A Co-Op Tower Defense Boss Battler! | From Rat Queens creators Kurtis Wiebe & Roc Upchurch and designed by Sen Foong-Lim and Erica Bouyouris!
