Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I’m a Wehrle playtester. I’ve played more Root than most, including every faction multiple times. I think I know how to play Root. You can’t not play this as a wargame. But the very point of the game is that there’s always at least one faction not engaging in direct, army-based warfare. 3P is two high-reach factions and one political/chaos/intrigue faction. Which is Root at it’s very best. But no, I’m not talking base Root. Although I would still prefer base at 3P simply to not include VB. Root at 4P is chaotic in the mathematical sense. With 3 days of turns between your turns, predicting the boardgame for your next turn from initial conditions is an almost fruitless exercise, and even if you can, it might take upwards of 30 minutes between your turns. 4P Root, like 4P Pamir, is a game almost completely made up of reactions, rather than actions or plans. 3P is infinitely sharper, not to mention meaner.

Haha and you're bad at Jaipur if you takes you 30 minutes to play... I don't think u/TiffanyLimeheart was using those numbers in reference to Jaipur specifically. I think the 5min/30min was just a hypothetical illustration of their point.

I'm sure there's a mathematical formula for it. I would say 10 minutes set up and 5 minutes tear down is acceptable for a 2-3 hour game. 5 minutes set up for a game that's 30 minutes is pretty unacceptable. To some degrees it's also about complexity of set up vs depth of game. Jaipur is a good example of a game which is at its core very simple so I feel more annoyed about doing set up compared to sea salt and paper where the set up is instant. Root on the other hand I feel like the set up complexity matches the depth of the game. I'm ok laying out all the components because I think the game would be worse without them. And there's probably something about max time per action which is a much flatter curve for acceptability. Mtg is a prime example where I refuse to play certain decks because I have to do too much admin to complete an action. Add one counter here, trigger card c, and a counter to all things but three counters to one thing, reduce to opponents life by 1 gaining me 2 life, triggering an extra card draw which means 2 extra tokens. And you have to resolve them slowly in order in case your opponent wants to interrupt.

It’s push your luck when you are trying to stay in Tokyo to either damage everyone not in Tokyo or finish off your 20 points with the 2 extra points for staying in Tokyo a full round. It’s like well I have 3 life only one person left maybe they don’t get 3 damage screw it im risking it. It’s a Yahtzee dice game so luck is an inherit factor. There is player elimination and it’s what 30 minutes at most with even slow players. It’s not chess my guy. It’s just for fun. Go play something else if you want a super strategic experience. It’s suppose to be random fun.

Modifiers help a lot, road conditions and the draft are all fun. The game flows super well with everyone picking their cards at the same time then quickly doing your turn one at a time. Its definitely not the other games you listed but its one of the best "talk and hangout while playing a semi serious game" you can find. It fills a perfect filler between social and strategy game that you can do in 30 minutes before breaking into a 2-3 hours game.
