Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm not at all surprised that companies are willing to do this. I'm a little perplexed that people continue to allow companies to do it to them. The deal backers struck with the publisher is "Take my money. Do whatever you want." They want to make money more than they want to send backers games. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

  2. Comment

But every company knows that early copies will be needed for reviews, marketing, etc. A company doesn't just make enough copies to satisfy backers. Don't even get me started on retail copies.

  3. Comment

It takes time to produce and ship out large quantities of a product. The factories are only going to ship when either all of the product is finished and ready for shipping or they meet a specific requirement that makes financial sense. They aren't going to make 100 copies, set up shipment, pay costs and fees to ship them, and rinse and repeat until 15,000 copies have been shipped. That makes no sense at all. The backers' copies will be shipped when either all are done and ready to be sent to the company for fulfillment or they'll do it when they get enough finished to justify paying for the physical real estate on the boat.

  4. Comment

To each their own, but you enjoyed it and bought it. The backers aren’t paying for first plays anymore. Games will even show up at retail before backers get games sometimes.

  5. Comment

If a company made 50,000 copies of the "goodies" but only had 25,000 backed by backers, would you really be upset if the other 25,000 goodies were given out to others for free? Personally, I'd be happy that more people got more stuff for their games. Real quick edit: I'm just using that as an example, not saying that's what happened and why folks at a con got the exclusive goodies as well.
