   The seating thing is neat, but that's outside the rule book. The rest of what you're describing is just the game. Like deciding to push your luck with a hand of 6 or even 7 cards is a core decision people are making almost every game of Catan, and ultimately the outcome is just that, luck. Even if you're on 6 cards without a double-8 your numbers could be rolled twice and then a 7 fucks you anyway. It's playing probabilities. Racing people for good spots or blocking them in are all things that anyone playing should be doing. Tracking what other people have is important, but that's going to be limited by someone's memory. The social aspect is absolutely true though, if you're a dick you'll have 3 people gunning for you.

   I am happy Catan was made, it helped me and others to enter the board game hobby. It will never come back on the table though.
