   I haven’t actually played Hot Streak myself (it’s only now about to be released in my region), but I’ve watch it played and to me there’s no way that game isn’t a blast. There’s no way. Just look at it. Even the official corporate how to play video is fun! Also it’s designed by Jon Perry, a guy that hasn’t made a bad game in his life. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every game he designed.

   Cozy Stickerville only has one play because it was our last time in that village. It's been an amazing experience. Dorfromantik is good but doesn't satisfy quite the same story itch so we've mostly been playing Quacks and Hot Streak as a result. When gaming with other adults, Hot Streak is usually also in the mix, and my goodness is The Old King's Crown a lovely game.

   I bought both (along with Camel Up) about 2 weeks ago. We haven't opened Hot Streak nor Camel Up yet, because Magical Athlete is so insanely fun (the "we" in this case is me, my wife, and my 9yo daughter). We're already conspiring to get other people to the house soon to play with us. I've already 3D printed the insert for the box to make the organization and upkeep easier. Magical Athlete is an insanely fun game. In my meager experience, it plays great as a 3-player game and with the 2-player variant. I imagine playing with the full 6 players would be so chaotically awesome I might not survive.

   I grabbed and enjoy them both - both a lot of fun, both on a party games spectrum, MA leaning more towards Game, and HS leaning more towards Party. The biggest differentiator for my money is that Magical Athlete carries the zany fun through the words (and art) on the cards, whereas with Hot Streak there is a... performative aspect which is where the game can shine. The person calling out the cards, the person moving the pieces around. It wants the experience of being at a race, betting. The experience of Magical Athlete is more like a bizarre pinball game after drafting the effects on the table.
