Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I played Ra once, but probably too rules-heavy for me. Knizia's Modern Art and the much simpler classic High Society just works fine for me for auction based games! Am going through Quacks now (my first thought is that the theme of quack doctors is funny and definitely fits in an Indian context, if I play with my boardgame friends) Thanks for the suggestions

The baseline is that HT is half interaction half engine building. Drop the engine building and it will become "interactive game" as a game type. Engine building is anti interaction - it is a leverage against interactive skillset, rewarding mechanism juggling. **HT is half interactive game** - one half of it is interactive the other isn't. To explain the quote of mine you used. I hang around a place that is about interactive old school eurogame (mostly 1990-2005 stuff, but also newer games in that style, especially Knizia's stuff). And for that circle HT is a signature game of people that want to play interactive games with new school competitive mechanisms juggling winning focused vibe. Basically to play old school eurogames like they're new school eurogames. And next typical preference of such players are splottter games. I will admit the sentence your quoting was a bit tongue in cheek. 😀

I myself don't see a reworking with a mobster premise as especially appealing. A more than cosmetic reworking seems dubious given how well designed the classic is, and how well established its culture of play among folks who do appreciate it. I don't see any clamor among the latter for a change, and **their personal investment** in spreading the game to others who will enjoy it--which requires no overhead on a publisher's part--seems likely to be **more valuable** than whatever fashion-following gimmick supposedly would yield better returns. _Hansa Teutonica_ is the poster child for the category of games that have objectively remarkably simple and elegant rules sets, but are unintuitive enough to take probably more than a single playing to 'click'. It's analogous to playing guitar: some practice at forming chords is needed before those operations become as natural as walking, and (like proceeding to running with strategic orienteering) one can begin gracefully to compose chord progressions. My suspicion is that a change of premise to gangsterism would not help that at all; and that changes to the dynamics themselves, making them more quickly digested, would **undermine the very qualities** that make the game so remarkably worthwhile. I'm not privy to whatever Steding had in mind. It just seems to me that this probably is not on par for instance with Knizia's revision of _Quo Vadis?_ into _Zoo Vadis,_ which in my experience really has improved the game qua game while also presenting a more widely appealing conceit and graphics (so it's easier to draw players even to give it the first try).

On the quick and light side I like Knizia’s auction games a lot: Ra, Medici, Modern Art, High Society. All very easy teaches Still approachable but longer games are Chinatown, Lords of Vegas, Acquire. Vegas being my personal favorite On the heavier end is Brass, I personally prefer Lancashire but lots of people prefer Birmingham, hard to go wrong with either Honorable mention to some non-economic focused games with auction elements I like - Rising Sun (silent bidding on battle steps) and Cyclades (turn order based bidding on board actions)

Nearly any Knizia game!! My faves are *Babylonia*, *Ra*, *Whale Riders*, *Mille Fiori*, and *The Quest for El Dorado*. Knizia is an absolute master of constructing quality decision-spaces in medium-weight packages!!
