Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Help me decide between "Avalon the Riven Veil" and "The Old King's Crown" - Hi all, I'm struggling to choose which of these two to purchase (aka, I need arguments to stop me from getting both!). Both games are absolutely gorgeous, and offer a lot of player interaction and chunky decision spaces. They both offer shorter game lengths or long epics. They both lend themselves to chaos (Avalon's push your luck vs the rock/paper/scissors of Old King's Crown card play) The downside? Avalon has minis and I already have far too many games with minis that take up way too much space. I also think the catch up mechanic means being in the lead is super unsatisfying? Also, no co-op or solo mode. Old King's Crown, meanwhile, seems super unforgiving to newer players, where a mistake in turn one can haunt you the entire game. It also seems a little too swingy? A particularly bad luck on an assassin can screw up every well laid plan etc. Does anyone have experience in both that can weigh in on which they prefer and why?

You asked if these are the "perfect" minis. If you like them you like them and that is your right. In my opinion they look cheap and uninspired. The downvotes is because the r/boardgames bubble is Eurocentric and mini-skeptic, you can simply look at what is in production - modern boardgames have been around for 30+ years now. Regardless of the down votes and what you hear here, look at what is actually sold and available and reprinted. There are a lot of minis, a lot of meeples and very few plastic figures like these. If this style of "mini" is popular it would be produced. People aren't unenlightened, they like what they like. If standees, acrylic standees, meeples or wooden blocks were more popular than minis they would be produced than minis. Cost is an entirely unrelated issue, there would always be a cheaper game or a more expensive game, however if you look at what people who make boardgames say, the costs of producing boardgames aren't much affected by minis being in it. It's entirely simplistic to say "minis cause prices to increase" and Rising Sun costs 2x. Rising Sun had 2-3 expansions developed, a gigantic box of extras, a designer famous enough to have his name instantly recognised by fans, full art pieces commissioned for every unit in the game by a legendary Warhammer artist (Adrian Smith) and tooling developed for miniatures that rival resin in detail. The price was set years ago during initial Kickstarter and to my knowledge has not increased other than inflation. Do you need to pay that price if those mean nothing to you? Absolutely not - play Gunsen if you like it, or any other game that fits your taste and budget. But don't pin costs on one factor when there are so many things that make up boardgame production.

Mine has table toppers that inset into a lip (that has a card rail in it as well) around the whole table and the combined depth is probably 2 inches. If anything it’s too shallow honestly, we have very rarely actually used it to cover a game for that reason, since the inset toppers means the depth between topper and play surface is only like 1.25”. Not enough for many minis or game pieces or even a healthy stack of cards. It is nice for keeping pieces and rolling dice contained on the table still.

I’m like you. I sleeve it all. For your top 3 reasons. It’s apart of your hobby. Don’t let others make you feel any way about it. I don’t paint my minis so should I go around saying it costs too much and takes up too much time? No. I shouldn’t. If other’s feel the need to say so then they are insecure.

The traders theme was chosen and the game was successful despite the theme. By all accounts, nobody plays Hansa for its theme, nor is its theme good enough to be of note or even good enough to explain the mechanics or the game. You yourself said it’s pasted on as a theme At the very least, a mobster theme integrates better into the mechanics of the game. It gives off the right tone of interaction. Mechanically it makes sense and is easier to internalize as to why you’re doing what you’re doing instead of whatever it is you’re doing in Hansa for the game What people say on Reddit and what actually happens in real life is not the same thing. By Reddit’s standards, you’d think minis were awful and people hate them. And yet, again and again, games with minis sell over and over and over. Apply that logic here. Plenty of people say they would not buy Hansa if it had a mobster theme, but if a Kickstarter for it came out tomorrow, I’m sure the numbers would say different for a popular game getting a retheme. Regardless of what you may or may not think of a mobster theme, it is u questionably a better theme for the game, and a theme that at the very least works better thematically than what it currently is, which is a pasted on theme
