   Have you read into the expansion at all? If not, thats probably why you cant convince the wife. Prelude gives you 2 random Corpos and 4 random Preparation(forgot the term) cards from which you chose 1 and 2 . The corpos push you into a general direction ans give 'asymmetric player powers' while the other 2 cards give a certain head start. Player powers are speciaö perks. Things like less plants for a forest, absurd starting money(I think one corpo starts at 75) or using heat as cash. The other cards are just a small bonus, mostly gaining income or something Overall as much a must have as dual layer player boards

   Need help to convince my wife to buy Prelude, the Terraforming Mars expansion - Greetings! I am very late to the party but me and my wife have just discovered Terraforming Mars and we absolutely love it. I was checking for possible expansion and I read that Prelude is a must have because it reduce the play time considerably. I talk to my wife about it and she said, nope, no need, the playtime is just fine, no need to spend extra money and beside, it's the draft system that take too long, we'll just shorten it. For context, 98% of our game are at 2 players. Which makes our playtime for TM about 90 minutes, usually ending around turn 12, but it never seem that long, lol. Anyway, I want to buy it (which I probably will but without her knowing, haha) but what arguments can I bring to convince her?

   Do you have people who will play it with you since you seem to be accustomed to lighter games? There are legit concerns about the game though. With higher player counts the play:downtime ratio becomes less favorable particularly with newer players. The boards are very prone to being bumped. The art is rather generic and the designer is problematic. Still, I love the game and despite trying many "Terraforming Mars"-Killers I've yet to find a game that truly scratches the same itch. Lots of people insist that Prelude is essential to the game. It's a great expansion with minimal rules impact but the base game already has a solution to speed up the game: starting with a production of 1 in every category.

   My group loves it and we play a lot. It’s fun to try different things based on the cards you see and what other people are doing. There is a lot of space to play how you want by choosing expansions and optional rules. Imo, always play the drafting variant and always play with Prelude. It is somewhat group dependent but if you find the right group, it’s great. Not one that I would recommend trying to play with kids or people who aren’t really into games.
