Hmm, that one is tough. but depends partially on how many players are involved. But I shoose games I enjoy playing, so no games I consider to be bad. Robo Rally is a good candidate. The older version with just one deck of programming cards of course. Settlers of Catan implies max 4 players (6 with expansions. and yes I use the old name for it) Ricochet robots, Ticket to Ride (US map), are other good candidates if I want to keep setup-time and rules-explanation short. If I don't care about those, then Tang Garden, Kami-Sama, or Horror on the Orient Express out of the games I own. If any game then maybe Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico has too many ways to screw people over for little things. I would choose Ra.

Ra > El Grande > Puerto Rico for casual gamers

100% Ra. Puerto Rico is a great game but might not be the best for casuals. El Grande might take a game for people to fully understand what's going on. Ra is the easiest to grasp and has 3 rounds with scoring every round so by round 2 everyone should understand the game.

Puerto Rico is easier once you get the hang of it but I think you want to get them to the point where they are asking for more challenging games first. I think you'd have a lot of explaining and teaching to get them to the point of enjoying. Possibly more than you want at this point. You didn't mention Azul but something like that is a good gateway.
