   Should I buy ROOT? - Hi everyone! I've been playing board games for a long time, but I wouldn't consider myself deeply immersed in the hobby. I've played some of the big titles, such as Terraforming Mars, Mysterium, Betrayal at House on the Hill, 7 wonders, Res Arcana, among others. I especially enjoy resource management and strategy games. I have a few friends who are also into the hobby and would likely be willing to play with me. Recently, I came across Root, and it immediately caught my attention. Coincidentally, I found an opportunity to buy the base game along with some expansions for a good price. The only problem is that I've never actually played it. I feel like there are a lot of signs that I would really enjoy the game. Do you think it's worth taking advantage of the opportunity and buying it now, or would it be wiser to rent the game for a weekend and try it before committing to a purchase? I'm worried that if I pass on this opportunity, I might not be able to find the game again in Portuguese, or at least not for a reasonable price. What do you think?

   For some, becoming good and learning details of one game is more fun than quick touches of many games. I had more than 1000 games of Terraforming Mars, and still enjoy it and learn a lot.

   My gaming group are all on the spectrum, we like trying new games but there's definitely a small core selection of games we regularly play. Funnily enough Catan is one of them, haha. Also there's Star Realms and Lords of Waterdeep for the regulars, Terraforming Mars and Thunder Road Vendetta every now and then, and Kings of Tokyo when we want to piss off the one guy who hates it and has won something like 5 games in a row and needs a lesson in humility lol

   Need help to convince my wife to buy Prelude, the Terraforming Mars expansion - Greetings! I am very late to the party but me and my wife have just discovered Terraforming Mars and we absolutely love it. I was checking for possible expansion and I read that Prelude is a must have because it reduce the play time considerably. I talk to my wife about it and she said, nope, no need, the playtime is just fine, no need to spend extra money and beside, it's the draft system that take too long, we'll just shorten it. For context, 98% of our game are at 2 players. Which makes our playtime for TM about 90 minutes, usually ending around turn 12, but it never seem that long, lol. Anyway, I want to buy it (which I probably will but without her knowing, haha) but what arguments can I bring to convince her?

   The vast majority of people who play "games" probably mostly play one game, whether it's classics like chess, backgammon, checkers, hearts, cribbage, canasta, etc., or newer things like (ugh) Cards Against Humanity that they play with the same group of people every weekend. Do you walk by the chess players in a park and wonder why they're playing chess AGAIN instead of, I don't know, Terraforming Mars? It's only people in the "boardgaming hobby" who tend to think there's some expectation of playing a large number of different games, and not repeating games too frequently. "Oh, I don't want to play \[game\], we just played that three weeks ago!" And fair enough, there are a lot of games that aren't that interesting on the 100th play. The classics became classics because they had some staying power. Also, people's BGA gaming is often very different from their in-person gaming. BGA gives you access to a player population that likely includes other people with your experience/skill level. Lots of people have gotten so good at a particular game that they would crush everyone in their group or at their local meetup, but on BGA they can find and play against their fellow 500+ Elo folks.
