   I personally like Wyrmspan more than Wingspan, I think they fixed some of the slower gameplay from Wingspan and the theme is cute. If you’re in for something more thematic and complex, I really love Nemesis.

   Seeing Wingspan and Brass there, I would suggest Ark Nova if you want another heavier game. I have played it around 50 times and still enjoy figuring out what to do with each new hand of cards. The action cards get stronger the longer you leave them unused, so there is always something you want to do just one turn too early.

   Oh I agree that it isn’t easier in terms of strategy but it’s been our experience that new players pick it up quicker than Wingspan.

   First, if the idea of playing cooperatively appeals, check out the BGG file section and game variant forum for the different games you already own to see if there are any cooperative versions out there. I know some popular Euros like Wingspan have unofficial fan made co-op campaigns which would allow you to play and learn together games that you already own. I’ve heard good things specifically about the Wingspan one. As far as enjoying when you don’t win, since lots of Euros are point based, don’t focus on beating your boyfriend, focus on beating your own past score. Set goals for yourself of things you want to try or succeed at this game, goals you want to achieve as far as gameplay, try different strategies. This way even if you loose, if you achieve your personal goals, you still win. For instance, if you have Cascadia, maybe try playing some of the challenges in the back of the rulebook. This way even if you loose the game, you could still feel you accomplished something with the challenges. Along these same lines, games where you build something, a picture, building, city scene, etc. They are easier to enjoy even if you loose because you can appreciate your finished work. Maybe try some puzzly tile placement Euros like Santa Monica, Walking in Burano, or Meadow. Something where you can enjoy the finished result.
