   This is levels of AITA scenarios. In our groups we pretty much always choose beforehand, especially if we're interessed in doing a more heavy, longer boardgame. As we get older, we have less time to meet up so we don't wanna waste those sessions with figuring out what to choose and going through the rules etc. Meet up, host already sets up selected game and get going. Your husband is the one being insane, damn gaslighter.

   In my experience, it takes way more total hours for each person to individually learn a new game from the rules/video rather than one person learning it and then teaching it at the table. If your group only meets sporadically / gets very limited table time then I think your idea makes sense. If this is a weekly meetup, then I agree with your husband.

   Your husband seems a bit out of line, but I also think you're going to struggle with this unless you know the players very well and trust them to actually do it. I've never done this, but always wondered if it would work to actually force people to watch a well-made tutorial video together since they are usually trying to cover the rules as efficiently as possible. I suspect this wouldn't be popular though since people don't go to board game night to sit and quietly watch a video.

   Your husband is the insane one here. Why should everyone waste the limited time they have to play the game learning it? If I know what game is being played ahead of time I will always find a learn to play video or look up the rules.
