   Toyota lost me as a Camry customer when they started offering only Hybrid versions. Give me a 4 cylinder gasoline engine that lasts 200K+ miles and I’m happy. When I buy a car I buy to keep it for as long as possible. I know a lot of people are not like that, so I’m sure auto manufacturers aren’t going to cater to the minority. And they know a 200K mile car means less return business. I don’t want nicer interior trim, and more features that I was perfectly fine without for 20 years. I want maximum reliability. And I can tell you that interior material quality has gone down. Every manufacturer’s interior is more “plasticy” than ever. And no thanks to everything having a screen (or screens). It will be one more thing that will be expensive to fix when it fails. I get it, the manufacturers are scrambling to have the most features, but it’s raising the cost of even the base models. And overall longevity seems to not be what it used to be. Big companies care about growth and being more profitable than last quarter, not making a car that ensures that customer won’t need to buy another one for 20 years. Despite your confidence, I am confident less and less cars are reaching 300K miles. I know it takes maintenance to make it that far but it’s usually just that, maintenance. Rather than replacing a motor or transmission that has failed. I think you’re giving the auto makers too much credit when you say automakers are offering these improvements without raising prices. New cars have never been more expensive.

   The entire point of the WRX is that it's a turbocharged manual AWD car that costs fuck all. It has some rough edges but you're paying less than a Camry so who cares? If it was dry pavement when you drove it you were missing the best part, they are significantly more fun when traction goes down. Subaru clutches and shifters have always been kinda ass though lol

   Lol no they do not. Not even close. A new CRV starts at $31.5 and a new CRV hybrid is $36.0. So a difference of like $4.5k. Not even close to $20k. And let's not forget that Toyota doesn't even make a gas Camry anymore. They are only available as a hybrid. And it starts at $29.6. So no, hybrids are not some crazy expensive option.

   I disagree that most new cars are worse. Especially with the rollout of Toyota's hybrid system, which is mechanically simpler than almost any other transmission, and doesn't have any "achilles heels". As far as interior quality, I also haven't noticed major issues with newer cars. My 2023 Genesis has a single part that creaks while everything else is quiet and sturdy, which is a bit better than my 2015 Genesis sedan. I rented a base 2026 Camry and appreciated almost everything besides the seat comfort and menu layouts. The NVH, interior materials, screens, and speakers are much improved compared to a 2016 model. I think this is an area where capitalism is serving its purpose and making car companies compete to make cars more upscale and comfortable at the same prices. If you want to look at single generation improvements, the difference between a Kia Forte and K4 is immense, as well as the 10th and 11th Honda Civics.

   The Camry has basically the same mileage at the same price in a larger car.
