Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Reasonable answer!? Are you crazy this is Reddit! Everyone needs 200A service with a 48amp EV charger installed! (I obviously kid, we currently use level one charger on our EV and it’s plenty fine, you don’t need to be topped off to 100% (80%) every night an that’s ok. Some nights we don’t get full max charger and just let it continue to charge on weekends when we don’t need to use the car. People are weird about EVs, they think they need to be at 100% everyday as if they full up their gas car every day before getting home.

The Emporia Pro charger has a load management unit that connects to your existing box. They then communicate and actively adjust your charger output based on the load on your panel in realtime. They are up to code and legal for an alternative to upgrade your panel. Even better when you charge at night. Sounds like it would work fine on yours, as long as the lines from the power company to your box are fine.

I understand where you're coming from but I do think it's a little silly to call actually enjoying my large purchase a luxury when it would have been much more expensive to get an EV that I did not enjoy. I think there are a lot of factors that affect people's willingness to buy an EV and they're different for everyone. I really believe it boils down to the technology being too new for most people still. EV tech is advancing rapidly. Each generation of new EV's is heads and tails better than the last. A brand new EV quickly becomes obsolete when the next generation comes out. This also means that resale value is atrocious. So the upfront cost is higher and then it depreciates faster. That is not a luxury I was willing to pay for. Charging infrastructure is another factor. Outside the big cities, chargers are few and far between. I live in an area where gas stations can be too far apart so reliable charging just doesn't exist here. I'm lucky enough to be able to install a charger at home but anyone in an apartment just doesn't have that option. Being able to install a charger at home still means I'd have to buy and install a charger at home. That bumps the price of an EV higher for me and also gives me a chore that I don't want. People are reluctant to change in general. Many people view buying an EV as a gamble. Whether its fair or not to view it that way, it's going to take time for people to come around on EV's. In theory they make a lot of sense but in practice they just don't for a lot of people.

Chargers in my complex are only in 2-hour parking spaces and the local tow company patrols vigilantly. I've seen newer complexes with more chargers that aren't also visitor/temporary parking spots but there doesn't seem to be a big incentive to upgrade an existing complex right now where I am.

By the way I found statistics on the level of electrical service in the US, only 2% of households have less than 100A. Although it's true that 40% of houses have 100A service, that is undoubtedly a major blocker. I think probably the way that will be handled is: * A charger with a battery which trickle charges through the day, then charges the car up from the battery. That would be a good use case for cheap sodium batteries. Say you have a 10kWh sodium battery which charges up during the day, then you plug in the EV, and you get the 10kWh buffer, plus another 10kWh from the 100A connection overnight, that would add 60-100 miles of range. * Improvements in the EV charge rates so that fast charging is quick, the fastest cars can now charge at about 250 miles of range in 10 minutes, and that is improving quickly. I think if you combine the two EVs can be more convenient for a lot of people.
