Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I own a Chevy bolt, one of the slowest charging vehicles. It's always fully charged when I wake up. I never think about charging speeds. His statement isn't a scandal.

>But the way things are now, I still take our ICE on about half our road trips over 4 hours. I bought my EV with long road trips in mind, and I've taken it on long road trips, and for me it's been fantastic. It's better than the diesel SUV that I was driving before. Hmm. . . I wonder what accounts for the difference in our experiences? (I think we'll find the answer a little further down.) >What I mean is, 30-40% improvements in range and charging speed would take me to functionally no difference in the way I take road trips in an EV or ICE vehicle. I'm driving a six, nearly seven, year old EV that's EPA rated 400 miles but actually manages about 280 miles at highway cruising speed. It's limited to about 200 kW peak charging. I find that I cover the same distance in a day of driving that I did before with the Jeep. I don't have to leave earlier. I don't expect to arrive later. It's 500 to 600 miles in a day of travel (depending on conditions), then have my down time in the evening and be ready to do it again the next day without stress. >There are times when after 3-3.5 hours I’m ready for a longer stop, but there are also times when I just need to do exactly what this CEO said I don’t. Get gas and use the bathroom and get back on the road as fast as possible. Well, there it is. That explains a lot. I'm ready to take a break after a couple of hours of driving. Maybe on the first leg of the day when I'm fresh, then I'll stretch it a bit longer. But gas or electric doesn't matter, I've got to take breaks. So which one of us is normal and which is the automotive freak? If you look up expert advice they all say pretty much the same thing: 2 hours driving, 15 minute break. Max 10 hours / 500 miles of driving in one day. They're recommending pretty close to what I've been doing. It's not because I followed their advice. I just found what isn't stressful for me. If you really need to go 800+ miles in one day, maybe it's time to consider air travel. This IONNA guy, he's working every day to partner with the big travel stop chains. Those businesses have been growing in size and amenities every year, making money by enticing travelers to spend more time-and-money in their stores. It seems to be working. If normal folk weren't taking the bait, those business plans would have collapsed by now.

I’ve got an EV. I love it. I’d be happy to never buy another gas car. But the way things are now, I still take our ICE on about half our road trips over 4 hours. The truth is that, for me, we’re maybe 60%-70% there for an ideal road trip. What I mean is, 30-40% improvements in range and charging speed would take me to functionally no difference in the way I take road trips in an EV or ICE vehicle. My current EV has a theoretical 300 mile range. At highway speeds, that means that practically I’m typically planning around 200 miles between charging stops. There are times when after 3-3.5 hours I’m ready for a longer stop, but there are also times when I just need to do exactly what this CEO said I don’t. Get gas and use the bathroom and get back on the road as fast as possible. The 30-60 minutes my EV would need to go another couple hundred miles then are an inconvenience. It means that for every charging stop, I’m leaving half an hour earlier, or getting to my destination half an hour later. I could maybe stop and enjoy the journey, but EV chargers aren’t often in fun places that I want to spend time, even if I’m not in a rush. But I also don’t know that I need the megawatt chargers that China has to make the difference. Get me to a proper 300 or 350 mile highway range (driving 70, even when it’s cold) and make my recharge time 15 - 20 minutes, and I’d happily take all my road trips in my EV. After 5 or 6 hours, even when I’m in a hurry, I probably need a 15 or 20 minute break. And with 400kw (along most of a vehicle’s charging curve) you’re basically there. There are some EVs there or close, though they’re outliers now. The Escalade IQ gets 400 miles in real world highway range tests and charges at about 100 miles every 10 minutes. But at $130k, I’m not really in the market for one. The Lucid Gravity is more realistic, and probably the best current road trip EV with 350-400 miles in highway tests, and 400kw charging that should deliver 200 miles of range in 11-15 minutes. But it’s still an $85k car. I expect that in a few years, those ranges and charging speeds will come downmarket and I’ll be doing all my road trips in an EV.

I agree the charging speed, range and cabin space is great. We are in Calgary and got a 2-year lease for $360/month all in, $0 down and $1000 cheque. Plenty of acceleration and decent enough interior for its price point. My insurance dropped almost 50% too lol

I'm guessing cost, weight, and charging speed. 88 kWh isn't that small, it's just the boxy aerodynamics kill the range at highway speeds.
