when the 1 series coupe went to the 2 series, they kept the hatchback as the 1 series. the nomenclature was a mess because BMW didn’t believe in the concept anymore. sure you can call it 2 generations from the N54 to the B58, but BMW didn’t even wanna move it up to the 2 series moniker. i love the idea of a RWD TTI6 hot hatch more than prolly anybody (i wanna import one when they’re 25 year rule eligible), but even in Europe the sales volume and margin are not there. there’s a reason they pivoted the 2 series to an FF layout. there’s no way Dodge is going to engineer that FR layout for a car that’s supposed to cost almost half as much in a US market where nobody really buys hatches or wagons anymore

Pretty much why I don't have a Civic. Before the hybrid came out, but they were acting like a Civic Hatchback was some rare commodity.

That’s the point. I’m not comparing them to a similar size German car. I’m comparing them to things in the same price bracket. Which are moderately specced hatchbacks. Which then they’re much better than imo.
