Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

The VR6 was quite an old engine when it got replaced. It’s also very heavy for what it is, inefficient and expensive to produce. The I4 is much better for packaging and meeting stricter emissions limits.

  2. Comment

If you're comparing it against the 1st and 2nd gen 4runners, I think Nissan had the clearly better V6, but worse I4 and transmission. Toyota's R150F and W59 shift better with less effort, and I haven't ever had a problem with either. Nissan's FS5R30A is good, but it was made by idiots who drilled the fill plug too low, so each and every one sold came a quart low on gear oil. How that wasn't recall worthy I don't know. Overall the 4runners and WD21 were comparable. The WD21 has aged worse, it's like a decade ahead in terms of developing age related problems to the 4runner. They also rusted worse in my experience, remarkable considering the 90s Toyota's are known for rust. The WD21 part support is also fucking horrible. Nissan is useless for parts, and aftermarket is much worse than with the 4runners. I think the WD21 is undervalued, but unless the equivalent era 4runner in question has the 3vz it's at best comparable. The 3rd gen 4runners are a serious improvement to all of these in materials, aging, forum support, and part support despite being nearly as old.

    The i4 was already renamed from i4 M50 (544PS) to i4 M60 (601PS).

  4. Comment

BMW dropped the “i” in their gas engines and instead use it to denote EVs (i3, i4, etc). Going with 50 instead of 40 is just BMW being BMW. Whenever they up the power a noticeable amount they tend to increase the trim number to make it sound more impressive. At one point the 330i was the higher non-M trim and now it’s the base model here in the US.

  5. Comment

I haven't driven an i4 but from what people have said it seems to be the same kind of driving experience as the i5 I had. And I've sat inside the i4 and the fit, finish and feel is a lot better than the model 3. If I personally were to buy electric again, I would probably choose the BMWs unless I can get a good deal on a used MB EQS. Drove one of those and it's really nice.
