Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm not giving any definition because for most people it's undefinable, I'm just pointing out that it's certainly not just speed that provides it. I'll say having 0 direct inputs to the vehicle isn't a great way to get a soulful experience though. If the throttle pedal isn't connected to a throttle, brake pedal not connected to the brakes or brake booster, steering wheel not connected to the wheels, then the whole thing is very likely going to feel quite synthetic. The same goes for the computer systems. If there's 1000 inputs done by the computer to things like the throttle, or rear diff, then it's not going to feel very much like I am really the one in control of the machine

Speed doesn't really equate to the soulful feeling of driving though. There's a ton of gas powered supercars that have been accused of being numb and soulless for a long time

I’m not saying cruise control isn’t helpful. The world isn’t made of absolutes, ya know. I’m just saying I don’t ***need*** it to keep from getting speeding tickets and to be able to focus on the road and drive properly. I just do the same thing on the highway, when not using cruise control, as I do when driving in the city. Focus on my surroundings, and my dashboard. All it takes is a quick glance to check your speed. Idk why you guys act like you have to solve for X to get your speed readout. It takes less time than it does to check your mirrors. What do you do when driving in the city where cruise control can’t help you? Hell, my first two cars didn’t even have cruise control. It was an option that those base models didn’t come with. Pretty soon we’re gonna wind up having folks saying you absolutely ***need*** lane assist, automatic emergency braking, and other driver aids. No, if you’re paying attention and fully mentally capable, you don’t ***need*** any of it. It’s just helpful, but not required.

I’m sure I don’t do it better than cruise control. But I also don’t vary my speed enough to be a problem to drivers with cruise control on. Pushing my foot down makes me more engaged because I’m actively monitoring my speed periodically to ensure I’m not slowing down or speeding up. If your leg gets tired from pushing the gas pedal, you need to do more walking or something lol.

  5. Comment

If you pay enough attention to your driving you can maintain a steady speed. It’s folks who don’t pay attention that need cruise control. I use it, because I have it, but I don’t need it to maintain a steady speed. In fact, I often turn it off for a bit during long drives to keep me more focused. Edit: lmao lots of people admitting they can’t drive worth a shit. Ya know, not that long ago, cruise control was an optional feature, not standard. You guys would’ve had a mental breakdown back then. If you’re paying attention, and fully mentally capable, it’s not hard, at all, to maintain your speed while still being observant of your surroundings. You guys act like you need to solve a math problem to check your speed. It takes less time to check your speed than it does to check your mirrors. Pretty soon we’re going to have folks saying you absolutely need lane assist, automatic braking, and other driving aids. No, you don’t, if you’re capable of driving properly. They can be helpful, yes, but you don’t NEED them. Or, at least, you shouldn’t. If you do, you shouldn’t have a license. Also, understand that I’m not saying I never use cruise control. I just turn it off for a little while on long drives to stay alert. Or maybe I have some superpower because my first two vehicles didn’t even have cruise control. /s
