Sizes and classes of cars stopped making sense long time ago. The 20 year old Porsche record was done on 20 year old tire technology. Tires make a huge difference on 8 minute lap.

That thing about tires is already telling you a lot about why it's tire sensitive. You need a very grippy tire to overcome it's issue with too much weight on the front

Yup. Tires are usually the biggest x factor in these laptimes that rarely gets talked about. Like if a car is coming from the factory on 300 width borderline semi slicks, then it better be fast around a track, because they've severely compromised it on the road. Someone looking to drive a car even as little as 5000 miles a year is going to find that they are spending ridiculous amounts of money in tires and pretty quickly get sick of that.

i remember a video i saw of a comparison between golf mk5 with mk8 tires and the mk8 with mk5 tires and the performance was veery close.
