Hershey’s chocolate contains butyric acid, which is why it has that faint vomit smell. This is not new, though I am sure quality has gone down. To me, it was still gross, even in the “good old days”

Butyric acid, literally found in vomit. It's a byproduct of their original process for making sure the dairy was shelf stable. It's no longer necessary but it's part of their signature flavor profile. And it tastes like complete ass. Ghirardelli, Dove, Lindt, so much better chocolate out there. I never liked Hershey's but couldn't figure out why until I was around the same age.

I'm telling y'all it's the butyric acid, and what ever else their using to cheapen the recipe. Hershey's has tasted like vomit for years.
