Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Solo 401k is underrrated for exactly this reasonb. The employee contribution limit alone is $23,500 in 2026 before you even add the employer side, versus SEP-IRA which caps at 25 % of net income. For someone with moderate self-employment income the Solo 401k can get you way more MAG I reduction. The one thoing that trips people up is the Solo 401k has to be opened before December 31 of the tax year, whereas SEP-IRA you may open and fund allthe way until the filing deadline. So if someone is reading this in Q4 and doesn't have one yet, that's th timing to be aware of.... $45k contribution bringing you to low 40s MAGI is a great outcome. Did you do traditiona contributions only or mix in some Roth???

I genuinely cannot comprehend the people in this thread saying that two fully grown adults can’t have a relationship that survives if one is gone for 12 weeks lol. It’s 2026! We have FaceTime and Zoom and texting!

UK self-employed abroad since 2022 - tax refund and NI qualifying years? - I've lived in the UK since around 2007, but left in January 2022 and have been living/travelling abroad since then. I physically do my self-employed work abroad. My UK days were roughly: * 2022/23: 0 * 2023/24: 30 * 2024/25: 0 * 2025/26: 9 I kept filing UK Self Assessment and paying UK tax because I wasn't sure whether I'd return. I'm now considering correcting my previous returns as I may have been non-resident. I've potentially overpaid a few thousand pounds in Income Tax/Class 4. My main concern is **National Insurance**. I currently have around 11 qualifying years, and I don't want correcting my tax returns to cause previous qualifying years to disappear. **Has anyone actually corrected their UK tax returns after becoming non-resident and received a tax refund? What happened to their NI qualifying years?** Also, has anyone dealt with the **new 2026 rules for voluntary NI contributions while living abroad**? I lived continuously in the UK for around 15 years before leaving, so I'm particularly interested in the new 10-year UK residence requirement. Thanks!

I know I don't want to risk it, so I just didn't renew for 2026 and won't for 2027, fuck it. I spend all but two weeks outside of the US where I can just pay out of pocket most of the time and not get my shit pushed in. ACA is not worth it in the least.

The ACA subsidy cliff returned in 2026 and most self-employed people don't know about it - The enhanced ACA subsidies that started during COVID expired December 31, 2025. The 400% Federal Poverty Level cliff is back in 2026 and it's brutal if you don't know about it. Here's what it means in practice. If your Modified Adjusted Gross Income goes even one dollar over 400% of the federal poverty level, you lose your entire Premium Tax Credit. Not a gradual reduction. Because all of it, gone. For a single person that threshold is around **$62,600**. For a family of four it's about **$128,600**. The people most at risk are self-employed with variable income. You estimate your income in January, enroll in a plan with advance subsidy payments, then have a good year and end up **$5,000** over the threshold. You pay back the entire subsidy when you file. *Which could be* ***$4,000*** *to* ***$8,000*** *depending on your age and state.* What most people don't realize is that above-the-line deductions reduce your MAGI dollar for dollar. A SEP-IRA contribution, Solo 401k, or HSA contribution made before your tax filing deadline counts. If you're sitting at $65,000 MAGI and the cliff is at **$62,600 - a $2,500** SEP-IRA contribution keeps your subsidy intact. The math on this is significant. Let's say your subsidy is **$400** per month: that's **$4,800** per year. A **$2,500** retirement contribution that costs you maybe **$600** in taxes saves you **$4,800**. That's a better return than most investments. A few states have their own subsidies that go above the federal cliff: California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, and Washington all have state-level programs that don't have the same hard cutoff. If you're in one of those states the situation is different. The other thing worth knowing is that if you already enrolled with advance payments and your income came in higher than expected, you can make a SEP-IRA contribution up until your tax filing deadline including extensions: October 15 for most people. That gives you a window to fix the problem after you know your actual annual income. **Has anyone here dealt with the cliff situation this year? Curious how people are handling the income uncertainty.**
