Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Not necessarily. Not a nomad, but an expat (have lived 4000+ miles from my parents for 21 years). I have one brother still living in the UK, and my mum talks to me far more frequently than him - he's too consumed with his own life & his kids. They see him every few months, even tho they try to offer/ask to meet up more often. My mum jokes that she sees me more often than him and she definitely talks to me more - at least weekly, she often doesn't hear from him for over a month at a time. I also handle most of the things that come up like health/finances from afar - have a text thread with both of my brothers and I'm always the one informing them about things and initiating a plan to deal with issues when they come up. I find them doctors, book them appointments, buy all the christmas stocking gifts, order flowers for their anniversaries, etc. In an emergency situation, sure he's closer, but I would also get on a plane and be there within 24 hours if the shit really hit the fan.

I had a very annoying claims experience with them in SE Asia. Had an allergic reaction to an otc drug a doctor recommended, and SW wasnt going to honor it because they wanted a prescription...even though it was otc. Had to escalate and threaten a cc charge back before they covered it as an "exception"

Currently in this situation too, I feel you, its so difficult to navigate. I'm also an only child of parents that are 38 years older than me.... I go home twice a year and stay for 3-4 weeks and its never enough. They don't bother me, not financially nor physically, me but the feeling that I cannot manage a lot of things when I think I should, bothers me - mentally. I have been abroad for 4 years now and planning to move back in 1 or 2 years max. And am working towards being home even more often. I talk to my counselor about it and it helps but still the uneasy feeling and guilt dont go away easily. My parents are also experiencing many health issues, worse ones on my mom, and even though they don't have problems with getting help like seeing doctors etc, still there are so many limitations. For me the only thing that will work is that I have to move back or manage to be home more often.

Dad moved to the other side of the country when I was in college. Always seemed like he had it together, at least up to his standards. I used to call once a month or so and he’d talk about the weather, and I’d visit once every few years, or he’d come out west. We went to Mexico together in 2019, I could tell he was not getting around as well but seemed capable enough. He had a stroke in 2024 so I went to help out for a couple weeks. There was clutter everywhere, unopened mail all the way back to 2018, rotting food in the fridge, mold in the walls, major maintenance issues with the house. I did what I could, but he resisted ongoing maintenance and cleaning help. Went for a month last year to chip away at it, and just got back from a week. I’m making progress but it’s a lot to catch up on from him not taking care of himself or his house or his finances for probably a decade. If I had kept up with more regular visits during Covid maybe I wouldn’t be playing catch up now. It’s a lot. But also maybe it’s finally dawned on him that he isn’t going to magically regain his mobility and dexterity since he won’t do his OT or PT so he’s finally not fighting me on helping. Some of it can be handled remotely with hired help, some of it I just have to be there to look for the files, fill out the paperwork, be at the doctors appointments. It sucks how much time and energy it’s taking because he was not very involved for most of my life - paid his child support, had us over for parental visits, and then moved away. Never showed up to a soccer game or hosted a birthday party or anything. So I’m not sure what I owe him if anything, but I need the peace of mind that he’s not in total squalor. Tl;dr: Phone calls and texts may not reveal their actual situation. Keeping up is a lot easier than catching up.
