Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Want to go nomad (Thailand/Bali), but terrified of running out of money as a freelancer. Advice - Hi everyone, I'm a 24M freelancer from Tunisia, and I’ve never left my home country before. For about a year now, I’ve been freelancing on Upwork. Honestly, things go well sometimes—I get good clients, great reviews, and I'm always trying to upgrade my skills. But other times, I can go two months without landing a single new client. Living in Tunisia feels increasingly expensive and isolated from the rest of the world. There’s no clear legal or financial framework for freelancers here, and almost no local digital nomad or tech communities to connect with, grow, or find new opportunities. That’s why I want to leave and go somewhere like Thailand or Bali—to build a network, meet like-minded people, and experience life outside. My biggest fear is financial failure. I’m terrified of moving abroad and then hitting a dry spell where I can’t get clients, running out of money, and being stranded in another country with no savings and no home. Has anyone here—especially from developing countries or with inconsistent freelance income—faced this exact situation? How did you manage the risk? How did you handle the transition safely? Any advice or personal stories would mean a lot!

you might get by in smaller cities (marseille, liverpool, porto, south spain). vienna also might be worth looking into if you are a homebody. food and leisure are expensive, but housing is reasonable. central and eastern europe will give you a better quality of life. budapest: getting more expensive but you’ll still be comfortable once you find long term accommodation. serbia, macedonia: 2k will have you living like a king. great people and food too. wherever you go, budget extra for the first 1-3 months of airbnbs and tourist traps.

Sorry to say, you could have got those NI years for almost nothing by paying voluntary class 2s while working abroad. They have just changed the laws so that voluntary contributions from abroad can only be done as class 3s, which are an order of magnitude more expensive. You should look into how expensive it would be to make up those years when your previous contributions are invalidated by amending your returns. They might let you contribute class 2s instead for those years, but you should definitely find out.

It’s almost as if rent control restricts the supply of housing and makes it more expensive for everyone else. There’s a reason why almost all economists hate rent control, it’s terrible policy.

lol Im from Montreal and im planning on leaving this city, if you noticed all the construction and bad roads, that is one of the reason on my planned leave. Oh and don't get me started on the overrated and expensive food scene we have here..
