Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

Working holiday is possible in both Japan and Korea which is a strong alternative route, i took this route and met a few others who did and then landed an english teaching position and other part time work in the country I still know many who came over to Japan for ALT despite the weak yen and stagnant salaries and enjoy it for what it is a gap year some are committed to try make it work for the long haul Covid hit a lot of local schools though which reduced positions in favor of online or AI intrgrated tooling for some

I often wonder how this life would have worked (with a family) before Airbnb. We did chunks of it in hotels 2010-12, but a bigger business and a kid has changed that dynamic. Here’s our plan for 2027 if anyone can suggest places to find 2-3 bedroom homes other than Airbnb: * Busan, Korea * Taipei, Taiwan * Puglia, Italy * Lisbon, Portugal * Edinburgh, Scotland * KL, Malaysia The places where accommodation is hard will probably turn into short vacation weeks; and we’re thinking of also taking a long-term lease in KL as a bit of a 2028 base.

Still a solid option for a gap year, especially Korea. The E-2 visa is straightforward for Aussies, pay covers living costs with free housing, and you'll save a bit if you're not drinking every weekend. China is trickier now with stricter visa rules and more competition, but still doable if you have a degree and TEFL. Just don't expect the big savings that people talk about from a decade ago; treat it as a funded travel experience rather than a money maker.

China is still fine, but Korea is too expensive these days. Most things are similar in price as Australia but you would only get about $500AUD a week so its difficult to make ends meet these days… China is still cheap with a good quality of life

Is teaching English in Korea/China still a solid gap-year or career-break option for Aussies? - Feels like fewer Aussies are doing the "teach abroad for a year" thing compared to a few years ago — more going to the UK on working holiday visas instead. For those who've taught in Korea or China: how did it compare financially and lifestyle-wise to just working a normal job back home or doing the UK route? Genuinely curious what's driving the shift, if there is one.
