So much that you are on Reddit to fix issue before even starting... Shipping globally express is likely to cost you about the price of the laptop. Depending on carrier and destination custom clearance is the potentially biggest unknown in terms of delay. DHL cover most of the world. Best case scenario, you find someone willing to bring it to you. Pay their airfare or part of it. It might be cheaper and faster.

A fool-proof setup so good... that getting shipped a company laptop and being expected to start work in a couple days is causing this much of an issue? 🤨

You might not be aware, but every single time mail is shipped internationally it goes through customs. If a person is willing to fly the laptop out they will also go through customs, and it is an entirely different, obviously easier process. But some airlines require laptops be brought in carry on instead of checked luggage because lithium ion batteries stored in a tight space are a fire hazard.

People bring laptops with them traveling all the time with no issues. I don’t understand your reasoning for needing customs. There’s also a lot of adults that would also drop everything for a free flight to Asia

Maybe say that you're currently on a trip abroad, and you didn't know they wanted to start so soon. So, to get working ASAP, you will gladly pay for the cost to get the laptop to you so you can start work ASAP, if they could give you some leeway on the start date, maybe? Also, why didn't you just tell them the truth from the start?
