   OP doesn’t seem to be speaking about just rent. I believe €1700 is for rent and living everything included. And yes I know there are cheaper options and me I don’t even live in Paris so yeah I know there are other cities . Where studios would start from about €700 per month. But that’s through an agency with a CDI etc etc . If you’re renting with none of that then it’s mostly Airbnb’s or landlords who are going to take advantage of the situation to hike up the price. And yeah I agree with not scamming the health care system. It’s delicate enough as it is. If we want it to continue being free and accessible then a lot more money needs to be pumped into it and I don’t think they should be handing out freebies to people who don’t pay into the system, except of course for locals who really don’t have the means to contribute. You see on ex pat subs obviously well off people sharing tips on how to get PUMa (previously called the CMU). That shocked me quite a bit because they’re buying houses, not working and taking advantage of a safety net put in place to make sure that the most vulnerable with no money still get access to healthcare. It was mad. And they think it’s totally normal. Like just pay for your mutuel like everyone else. That’s the bare minimum you can do.

   My rent for a large loft in the 5th was 1280€, what are you talking about? And there are absolutely cheaper options I could have gone for. Also, there are plenty of villages and smaller cities with cheap rent. Paris isnt the only place to live in France. The only thing about that comment I disagree with is healthcare - unless OP plans on scamming the system, which I don't condone.

   I lived in Paris on 1100€/month (2023-2025). I was frugal I suppose, but quality of life was good nonetheless.

   Health care will absolutely not be taken care of by the French state (tax payer) And you’re not finding a loft for €450 in a small city. Paris does not have budget friendly options for $2000 I.e. €1733 . That’s what you’d probably pay for a month’s short term accommodation in Paris with no French income. This comment is so nutty.
