Each point is a seven-day rolling window of complete UTC days; a point is comparable only when at least 100 analyzed posts or comments fall inside it. A day with no analyzed records counts as zero; missing coverage is marked and never shown as zero. The series ends at the latest complete analyzed day — it never extends into the current incomplete day. How attention is measured.

I'm a CPA. Told my employer I was quitting 3+ years ago and asked them to hire me as a remote consultant. Initial contract was 3 months, but they renewed it for 2+ years. Now I'm taking small contract gigs and doing a side hustle while applying for another fully remote role. Short contracts or starting your own practice seems attainable, but there's a lot of competition right now for fully remote salaried work.

I work at Multiplier, so I can speak to the employment side rather than the job search experience. Being a US citizen doesn’t automatically mean a US company can put you on W-2 payroll while you work from Australia or NZ. They’d need a way to employ you where you’re based, such as a local entity or an EOR; contracting is another option if the role is genuinely independent. I’d ask recruiters early: “Is this role open to someone working from Australia, with APAC hours?” That should filter out US-only “remote” roles before you spend time interviewing. Also check the tax implications before accepting an offer, since US citizens generally still have US filing obligations while living abroad.

I worked for a federal agency in the USA remote and we had somebody that thought he could work in Japan. He was caught. It really depends on the kind of work you do and how encrypted & the IT is. With some you could probably get away with it. With some others you will absolutely get caught. There are basically three reasons that make it hard to work remote outside the USA…taxes (they would prefer you to be a contractor if they allow it), IT support especially for hardware, and the country your will be in can be strict on such things. Then what kind of visa will you have to be in another country? It’s a “grey” or completely illegal area to work remote in many countries without the right kind of visa.

Remote doesn't mean work from anywhere. Any company will easily fire you if you start working overseas without permission.

  5. Comment

You don't. It's easier to take an onsite job and make it hybrid once you get experience and go from there. I work remote and it took years to go from on prem to fully remote.
