   I do this from France, was in Asia before, and set it up the dual router vpn thing for a couple of friends who are currently in Japan. The only thing to watch for is little gotchas like the timezone settings on your laptop and taking meetings in front of windows when there's a significant time difference.

   Plenty of VPN comments already. As a tech worker, my recommendation is to hone in on remote-first companies with international work abroad included as a perk next time you’re job searching. I’ve worked for medium and large tech companies as well as startups and they’ve all offered 90 days of WFA.

   Devices will report their current IP to the home server, can report location services if you have the work profile installed, and can also get caught on random wifi that again shows a foreign IP. HCIT in particular can have lots of customer contracts requiring US only workers on things, and the stringent rules around data access usually require IT to install much more onerous monitoring. If you are a contractor, often you can get around these but if you are employed and need to use a VPN or a managed device to get to the charts etc, you are much more likely to be noticed by IT as part of their expected threat protection.

   As they said. Create your own vpn in home with wireguard/tailscale. Do a little trip to try. If not, just change company.

   You’ll have to just risk it all. Host your own vpn from a router and by a travel router to tunnel into it. I work in data - as long as it’s not healthcare or financial data then accessing from outside of USA shouldn’t really be a concern as the data physically lives in the USA ( AWS, Google data centers etc). But anyways if you do setup correctly no one should be able to tell where you’re at anyway. Just know the risk is your job
